Thought I would make it clear there may be some politics in this thread lol
I thought at this time it would be interesting to get a debate going on forumites views on politics, The best way would be to get it started in what could amount to a number of threads could be to start on a topic and see if it developes.
I tried this a little while ago but it died a death
So lets start here see how it goes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
IN GENERAL TERMS;
Not to many on here would disagree that politics has lost it's way, there could be a number of reasons for this such as;
1; political parties (all) just don't interest the everyday person
2; the general public don't feel engaged with parties
3; not to much difference seen between the parties
4; public to busy in there own lives to bother about politics
5; people are interested in the political arena at local and/or national level but cant identify a party that relates
to there interests
So what for the future?
Well over the years we have seen so many national scandals within the house of commons which has resulted in MP's
being the least trusted people.
turn out at elections is getting lower and lower because of the above.
Well we saw moves by Kinnock at the time after years in opposition, to take on the labour party and attempt to make
it electable, he failed in the longer term, but in the shorter term his statement at the labour party conference taking on Derek Hatton and the lefties of Liverpool council at the time was sowing the seeds for labour to change to be electable.
We did see the Prime minister that never was JOHN SMITH who led the labour party and I believe would have made a great prime minister but sadly died before he was ever able to reach those dizzy heights.
Along came Mr Blair, if you read his book he was clear in direction for the country/labour party and no one was going to stop him, he made sure of that, even when it was predicted he would get a landslide victory he continued to make sure he got into number trampling on many to do so(can you ses my distaste for him lol)
without doubt he made labour electable (and for 3 terms) which at the time labour had moved so far to the left it nearly fell off the cliff lol.
In his years it wasn't all bad he did get the minimum wage/ family tax credits, which for some was a lifeline
(it maybe could have been done better, but it did help a lot of people)
then the moves for the senior citizens.
but all in all the same issues/concerns remained, the bankers/the rich/ how to live, and I suppose people expected blair to change the world, but although he did a great deal and because he moved so far towards the right he was respected by many.
What he did as no different to other govts he hoped the tidal change would remain but, like Maggie he got to up himself
and when he knew his time was up he released to brown.
Now in those years a number of small parties cropped up but few survived to make much of dent, parties like;
respect, independents, one party, and more lately BNP, UKIP etc
I think now everyone wants to see a change, but what can that change be??????????????????????????
who will pay?????????????????
On the right we have seen the distaste of the working person and public services,
on the left we have seen the cost of benefits everyone wants change but no one wants to bite the bullet.
Do we realy have any solutions???
Obviously come 2015 the conservatives will attempt to hype up the immigration issue(but they did little more than labour to solve the problem)
The bankers and high earners whether in the public or private sectors are still getting massive pay offs which in turn just switches even more people off.
I will see how this thread goes If it takes off a little I will get into debate on different issues
I was going to do this earlier but when gary c said he wanted to do the history of the mining industry I thought I would hold off, but giving it more thought I decided to start this off and see how it goes.
iv attempted not to touch the Maggie years as gary c will probably touch on that in time.
So there we go for a start
DONT EVER SAY I ALWAYS DO ONE LINERS LOL
