00:4711732Does anyone have any serious predictions for the new year? Obviously we've had a few on here over the past few months that didn't hold water: that Frank Field MP might cross the floor of the House - he hasn't; that Gordon Brown would be 'haunted' by his slip over saving the world - it didn't even last here for longer than two days as a topic; that The Minet Blog would cause a stir - it didn't.
I thought I'd give the predictions game a whirl, here goes:
I predict that Barack Obama will have a honeymoon period that will last for at least the whole of 2009.
I predict that Peter Mandelson will be credited with a major policy initiative [never thought I'd ever think that, but hey].
The two major parties, Labour and Conservative, will both at some time be on 39% in the polls at the same time.
That David Cameron will regret his decision to continue to make speeches on a full bladder.

09:0311739You speak far too soon Sid. Brown's 'I saved the world' has been played in many Pantos over the Christmas season to great hilarity. It will be raised time and time again by the media - I have a ring tone of it on my mobile!
I predict that the Conservatives will be back into double digit lead in the polls by March.
That Labour will face a bloodbath in the local and European elections.
The budget will see growth revised down and borrowing revised upwards.

11:4911750Barry's prediction of a poll lead by March reminds me that he predicted a General Election date of 26 February. There'd be no point of having a big lead in March if you've lost the election the previous month, it does reinforce my view at the time of the prediction that no-one thinks the election will take place in Feb, it was just a Tory non-story. I was thinking of predicting the Tories would release figures to show the country is rife with crime and a scary place to live, but they are currently doing that every other week.
I hope my prediction of Cameron regreting speaking with a full bladder only results in him cutting short his address to the Tory Party conference rather than anything more serious

13:3611752If you ask anybody in the street about the Conservative Party and its effect as a credible opposition and their only claim to fame is Osborne and that damn yacht.
Personally twit of the year has got to be Cameron who chains his bike to a small post returns from the supermarket and finds that somebody has nicked it. He then goes on tv and asks the thief to return it. Tough world out there Davy boy nothing like Eaton, if you can't look after your bike how you going to look after a Country.

14:2011753Sid - You do love to deliberately misrepresent views and what is said on this forum.
I stated categorically that I think the election will be in June 2010 and you know that I said that.
Dave - if you were right we would not be ahead in the polls with the Brown bounce reveresed in the two more recent.

16:0111754I've said before that I doubt Osborne will be in post at the time of the next election, I'll go one further and predict he will be sacked this year as shadow chancellor. I think that Cameron is going to have problems over the coming year over whether he is the new voter friendly all singing all dancing leader he'd like the electorate think he is, or whether he is a slick spin king with a hard Thatcherite underbelly. If he slips in the polls I predict that the rightwing press and the Tebbit wing of his party will put him under pressure to ditch the 'softer' style and policies, and even some shadow cabinet members.

09:1411793Barryw predicted Tories would win last 3 general elctions they didn't
Barryw predicted Gwyn was on the way out at the last 3 general elections it didn't happen.
So realy as everyone knows the people will decide, and from what Im hearing not only will cameron fall short of that majority he desperatly wants.
but also Gwyn will get in again.
but thats for whenever the election is;

You know I told you before today I feel for your own credibility you should retire from the political arena.
I say this to protect bot yourself and your lovely wife.
Of course its you right, and its up to you.
But I feel Vic you have a lot to offer Dover but need to channel your energies in a different way.
