11:2131469When will there be a movement forward with the St James's development, are there still pockets of land/premises still holding out for more cash? If nothing happens soon the death knell will be sounding across the town.

11:2831470Alas its not looking good now at this point for Asda. Since all this dithering started another MAJOR supermarket has come to town and may well have stolen the thunder of the new ASDA. The problem though is that this supermarket is just a supermarket and thats fine in itself as it brings jobs and shopping variety (so that not one store has a monopoly), but I had hoped for the total redevelopment package for the centre of town that was coming along with ASDA. This is now beginning to look like a forlorn hope. Much like I have just said on the frontpage just now...we can never agree on any step forward so in the end we end up taking none. A great pity.

13:0531485my understanding is that asda is a definite goer, bulldozers are getting warmed up ready for the work to go ahead.
roger confirmed this on another thread, i think.

08:2931556Don't get filled with doom and gloom - despite the negative stories you read, things aren't all floating down the toilet.
I'm not in the top-man's loop, but my understanding (as I've said a number of times on different threads) that the DTIZ is still going ahead, albeit slower than we would all wish, but going ahead it is.
The old paper-mill site is also making progress and work should start soon on the first stage, an 80 bed residential home.
I'm not going to comment on the mid-town area as there's been a lot of stories and scare-mongering of late, so I'll leave that as I don't have anything new to add.
Think positive and keep the faith, people higher up the chain are working hard for all of us.

09:5131571I've not heard Brian, but flood-plain problems can be engineered out if the cost is not prohibitive.

12:5031573Usually I have to shop at Tesco where everything is under one roof for convenience and I hate it!! I try and go in the middle of the night so it is less hassle.
However, if work permits and I have time I love to shop in Dover Town Centre, Paynes, Rooks etc... This week I saved a fortune by shopping in Savers for my toiletries, Farm Foods for my freezer items and Paynes for my Fruit and Veg plus my daughter and I spent a lovely morning wandering around town and even had enough left for a nice cup of coffee in C'est La Vie!!

14:0331577Great posting Sheli.Thats exactly the type of shopping I used to enjoy when in Dover however substitute C'est La Vie for the 3 Links Club (before it closed) or St Pauls Catholic Club for a nice half pint of beer and Saturday Meat Raffle.

11:1732585I like to think that tescos view this site, if not, a member on here lets them know of things via the grapevine. Anyway, the same corned beef on this thread is now £1.17. Come down 36p. Why?..... Last night, PG Tips, 40 bag box = 93p. 80 bag box= £2.21. Therefore, 2 x 40 bag boxes=80 bags= £1.86! Buy 2 x 40 bag boxes instead of 1 x 80 bag box and you`ll save 35p. I thought buying a bigger anything worked out cheaper? This has always been my bone of contention with tescos, they mess about with prices so much, they get in a mess and you`re the loser if you don`t spot it. Go there today and see for yourself. And its not just this item.
