Queues at the castle
- 26 May 2013 18:47230969the scene just after 11 am, going by previous experience it would take between an hour and 2 hours to get in so i left it.
later on about 2 pm i was told that the queue was about 3 times that length, this happens every time there is a special event and to a lesser extent on a weekday when a cruise liner is in.
english heritage seem to keep staff numbers at the lowest possible level to cut costs whilst having the cheek to raise admission prices.

I dont know how the elderly would manage it..no seats or anything..guess they are not wanted.

- 27 May 2013 19:16231043Didn't know that, Howard. The last I went was a couple of years ago with my granddaughters, seen here on the steps leaving. We entered by the lower entrance without problem, although as a Friend of Dover Castle there was no charge anyway.

- 27 May 2013 19:21231047you still need to be booked in and get a ticket and stick on badge ed, a while back we went by car and there was a big queue at the visitors centre so we just tried to carry on without booking in and we got stopped and had to join the queue.

i thought the guard sheep at the bottom were there to stop trespassers.

Large crowds were seen gathered in front of the German soldiers, who were explaining away and showing off their uniforms.
As the throngs looked on in wonder listening to a German officer explaining military tactics on the field, I noticed an abandoned NAAFI truck... yum!
