16:4429429I'm sorry this is quite a personal posting, but I know some people out there knew our RebelDog, especially during the days of DoverWeb. We lost her today. She was a fab family pet and a bit of an icon when DoverWeb ran strong. Me and my family are going to miss her so badly.

18:2129432Oh Rick, I'm so sorry - you and Claire must be heart-broken.
Jean and I remember Rebel-Dog and have seen him many times - as you say, in the early days of DoverWeb, a true icon.
Give our love to Claire and the kids - you too of course.
He must have been a good age.
Sincere condolences to you both Rick.
Roger

22:3029436Thanks Roger and Colette
Yes we are heartbroken, but it would have been harder to let her linger, she was so clearly ready to go. She was 2 months short of 13.
I'm just going through all our old photos and videos at the moment, to put together a montage of the time we were so lucky to have with her. She was Rick's dog before I met him, but the kids and I loved her from the moment we met her back in 2002. She was born in our house so we buried her in the garden and I will be planting a shrub over her grave.
Just a minor point, Rebel was a girl dog!

06:5129440Ah thats sad news indeed. Gosh I remember this lovely dog going way back now, so its really sad to hear about this. Rick's original pseudynom in the old old days was Rebeldog so you can see in all walks of life this lovely dog played a big part in Ricks life, and of course in the life of the family. Very sad.

08:5229443I am sorry to that you lost your pet dog, they are part of the family and it is very sad when the times comes.
I also have a dog now aged 16years and is very ill i know soon that she will also have to go,I got her after our son died to try and help my wife and it did work and she has been very good and I will hate that day when it comes, but the cost in keeping her going is about £45 amonth and now I have packed up work this to us is a lot,but I can not bring myself round to take that step yet,she still gets up and walks around the garden but then sleeps all day she is on a lot of tabits about seven aday,so i do know how you feel, also we had two cats one died at 24years,and one at 26years they went within weeks of each other,I just hope that one day I will wake up and the dog has died in her sleep.

Tell the wife to keep the dog and have you 'put down'...lol Only joking Vic
It is always a sad day when a pet passes away hence I don't keep any.

11:0329451Sorry to hear about that Rick. Dog's become a huge part of one's life and leave an enormous hole when they go. I've had four dogs in adult life, three GSD's and a potty springer. They all became part of me. Do you still have the Rotty?
All the best,
Terry

11:1929455Thanks for all your nice comments. They really help at the moment. Terry, yes we still have Shelley the rottweiler although she is at her life expectancy age now and struggling with bad legs, so I don't know how much longer she'll be with us. It's a real shame that we have our pets for such a limited amount of time. Any dog lovers out there will understand and agree that us dog folk invest just as much love and devotion to our animal friends as any human friend, and we feel the loss just as painfully. But this is the "deal with the devil" that we make when we take on new pets. It always ends the same way for everyone. All that beautiful companionship is terrific but the price we pay for it is always the loss. But hey, it's just nature taking its course, the way that things are, and at least we can feel proud that Rebel had a superb life and I had the rare honour of being with her every single day of her life as she was born in my house and is now buried in my garden. She even came on holiday with us as I couldn't face putting her in kennels.
