I have just read on the teletext that there was a serious accident involving 2 powerboats at todays Dover Regatta. I hope everyone is OK.
Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

Unfortuately not Marek, one person died at the scene and after two hours the air ambulance is still there. Four people where in the boat.

Have some information and picture on frontpage now. Very sad news this. I think this was the biggest crowd ever at The Regatta, it was a lovely day but marred now somewhat by the unfortunate tragedy. The racing picture on the frontpage shows the type of boat and the way the racers in each boat were seated, two per boat. Very sad. See frontpage for more.

Terrible news. Is the event going on? Fireworks would seem a little incongruous.

Andrew I thought that too, it might be in jeopardy, however I havent had anything official so am just guessing at things as I look out the window. Clearly there has been no more power boat racing today. More races were scheduled for tomorrow but whether it will go ahead or not now remains to be seen.
Earlier the helicopter display as done yearly by Air Sea Rescue/RNLI didnt go ahead as the helicopter was required elsewhere...this had nothing to do with the crash. This left a bit of a hole in the events programme.
The dragon boat races are carrying on, as are the helicopter rides from the beach(doing great business too). The music still plays over the tannoy. So surmising from this carry on spirt, I expect the fireworks will go ahead.

Just returned from the seafront and although this terrible accident happened the Regatta will continue except some of the Powerboats will not operate but the fireworks are still planned for 09.30pm
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Bliney, I had no idea, I was looking down from the Heights just after then and wondered why there was a lack of activity. Very sad news.
Been nice knowing you :)

Such a tragedy, our thoughts are with his family and his colleagues, we happened to meet a group of these guys last night while out and about so its a little bit hard to take it all in complete shock .

It is a shock and more so for the chap's family of course; very sad indeed.
We were there about 2ish and strolling along the seafront, seeing all the smiling, happy faces, you'd never know this had happened so shortly before-hand.
Hope it doesn't stop future power-boat racing.
It was amazing to see so many people down on the seafront; the stalls were very good and varied, you'd never think there was a recession on - "recession, what recession".
The evening's fireworks went ahead and were fantastic I must say; I'm a big kid when it comes to fireworks and love 'em.

The Man's family asked that the Regatta would go ahead as planned including the fireworks,I understand that the power boat people will return to the scene today to lay a wreath but there will be no more power boats.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Yes the fireworks went ahead as scheduled but the crowds were down somewhat on the previous display at the Bleriot weekend. As Howard mentioned above quite a few people gave them a miss folowing the tragedy which did put a damper on the event. The fireworks themselves were very good considering that the Regatta do not have the same level of budget. I will have pictures of the fireworks on the frontpage in due course for those interested.
It was a quieter regatta today. There didnt seem to be any music, clearly there was no powerboat racing of any kind, and the RNLI did their display hampered somewhat by the lack of the usual accompanying helicopter, this made it less spectacular but nevertheless its always good to see them do their thing. The skydivers landed on schedule and in the right place and the sleepy sail past was okay too.
Right now as I look out most of it is all packed away for another year. ..everthing gets dismantled so fast. The event was blessed with good weather this time and was very successful, apart sadly from the tragic events of yesterday.

we have had 3 great weekends in a row, how spoilt are we in dover?
i got talking to a family from sevenoaks that regularly visit here in high season "as there is always something going on".
their words, not mine
the tragedy did not stop the weekend going on, though i thought it right that there was no music today.
as already said by paul we had displays form the rnli and skydivers which were superb.
what was the oddest stall or tent that people saw?
my favourite was the christian motor cyclists, do they mow people down then give them the last rites?
