Not to try to get Sue's attn but i recently used PUBLIC TRANSPORT to go through River to go to Kearsney Abbey.
Passed Sue on the bus and gave my royal wave(and got a wave back)
the abbey was packed with people having picnics, and My wife and I had a delightfuil meal in the cafe.
it was lovely.
A great day out

There is a problem up there by someone who owns the back not allowing people in ,Sue will tell us more. Not all of it is owned by DDC
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Yes me old mate I did receive THe Royal Wave .I was out doing my bit re Public Transport consultation .You have to be quick to realise what is going on .I spent over an hour talking about bus stops and shelters etc .The River service is going to be joined up with St Radigunds as from September .
Regarding the Abbey my back garden .The boating lake is fenced off because the walls are collapsing .I have been trying very trying to get them repaired no money in the budget .
The large tree is taped off as it is a danger and its to prevent tree climbing .Im not sure if John is referring to the land beyond Coxhill Mount .
I see the Clarendon play area was reported on .No mention that I asked the question ,still its back on the agenda .

Kearsney and all around there is a gem of a place, especially when the weather is good.
I'm also pleased to hear that Clarendon is back on the agenda - thanks for your help Sue, pleased with the help we can get.
I hear there are now two more (new?) sites (not DDC land) being looked at; I thought we'd looked at just about every square foot around this area, but if it can be found, all well and good.
We could cut down the costs of any refurbishment by using the Community Pay-Back teams.

i suppose that things have to be kept under wraps whilst negotiations are going on.
especially if there is more than one site.

Don't agree howard, best way to get community on your side is to work/and include them.

the land owners have to be kept on side too keith.
as long as it is local, i doubt that parents will be too bothered about the exact piece of land.

Yes they do bruv, but its doesn 't have to be hush hush
sure all parties would rather its out in the open
no good selecting a site no one wants
we saw that during a recent election campaign
take the people with you its so much easier

07:0826934I think the point Howard is trying to make Keith, is, determine whether the site is available first, then talk to people; it's no good getting their hopes up, then dashed as the landowner doesn't want to sell.
Any land being sold for a play area will fetch far less than that sold for residential development, so the landowner would have to be quite philanthropic - and comfortably off, to "lose" so much money.
Keith, you mentioned a piece of land that could have been used for a play area that no one wanted; this was an ideal location, but from what I was told the local Labour people turned the residents off of it and I was told people didn't want to hear the sound of children's laughter when they were sitting in their back gardens.
There is now trouble I hear on those allotments, by kids who climb over their own garden walls with their mates, into the allotment area, mess up some of the plots and also climb over other people's gardens walls causing trouble in there too.
There would of course have been a very secure high fence all around, so this trouble would not have occurred: no matter, it's all over with now.
The allotments are managed by the Town Council and well done to them for the work they do with all their allotments.

I would hate to correct you but i will lol
On the issue of the belgrave area proposal, it was NOT the labour party who turned people against this proposal, it was to name but a view the
LOCAL RESIDENTS
LOCAL PLAYGROUP(security for there own children)
So it was the local people who had serious concerns,
but as you say, its gone now, so letrs move on and find a suitable site, feel its been far to long,

11:2326953Ignorant destructive w*nker yoofs aside, Kearsney Abbey is still a gem.
Spent 95 per cent of my childhood with my friends there. We played football and cricket all the time, climbed trees, jumped in the river, played pitch and putt, made camps up Coxhill Mount and scrabbled about on the Abbey ruins by Waterfall Stores. Happy days.
An absolute diamond of a place, still very dear to my heart, and that of my family.

i wondered what all that noise coming from the allotment was.
i suppose that it has become a play area after all?

06:5426978Howard - isn't it the sound of allotment holders laughing as they dig merrily for their spuds ? Or perhaps they're enjoying a beer of two, following ten minutes digging.

08:0626980I would say one site being looked at that is privately owned, is that at the bottom of Clarendon St, I did ask if it could be compulsory purchased for a play area, but was told that was not possible, even though the owner is letting it get in a neglectful state.
