20:268204Oh they will not get up as far as Crabble Corn Mill then. to see the leak that is still allowing water to run down the footpath there. The leak the E.A., Highways and the Distict Council have all forgotten about that one day may just burst and flood.

20:358205the emphasis is on making the river attractive.
up at the mill and further up the river is already attractive, goes all grotty further down.
whi is actually responsible for the leakage, or is just an issue being bounced back by various bodies?

21:388218Howard the leakage is as you say just being bounced back and forward, no one wants to know.
It may even not be a leak at all, the water is so clear and there were traces of chlorine in the water when the EA checked it. How many rivers do you know with chlorine? No one wants to make a decision and investigate it fully.
Water Board, E.A.. Highways, The District Council, they have all been and gone and no one gives any answers, they do not give a dam. We have sent letter after letter it makes no difference and now they do not even reply. If it is a leak, it is certainly getting worse and water just has this little old way of one day letting you know its' there, then they will all come a running saying it was not their fault.
Highways took the Mill fence down, part of the wall, dug the big hole walked away and said not our problem and left it in a mess. The Water board said it's not a water leak, said not our problem and left, E.A Came looked, said we will write to Highways and we will be back, that was 6 months ago and the District Council did exactly the same.
The path gets slime on it, the Mill staff clean it up but one day some one will slip and then who pays and if the water bursts through and damages homes, who will pay for that?.
Yes the River up stream looks good but that is because we care and we try but we are a small band of volunteers, we can not do every thing on our own.

22:148223that does ring true harry.
i tried to find out who was responsible for an overgrown alleyway 2 doors from me leading to allotments.
the list of people that said it was not them bit someone else was incredible.
DDC, dover municipal charities, the town council, the local community association, the tenants of the local community association.
apologies to those i may have ommitted.
finally got done last week, our local town councillor sheila got the bit between her teeth and the place looks inviting again.

You know that I took that up as soon as you mentioned it to me.
There were at that time, negotiations going on between the Municipal Charities and Dover Town Council, who were taking over responsibility for the allotments between Westbury Rd. and Longfield Rd.
Nothing would/could be done until those negotiations were completed and then the transfer took place, so the Town Council were able to clear it up.
They (the Town Council) have done/are doing a great job at the Maxton Allotments and presumably will be doing more work at the Westbury ones.

sorry if i omitted your efforts, just an oversight, the point i was making was the time taken and the number of agencies involved.
each kept saying it was the responsibilty of someone else.
