08:518705See story on frontpage with full letter of resignation from Roger himself.
Roger worked tirelessly on the Dover Loyalty Scheme but is clearly saddened by unfolding events. Roger worked very very hard trying to make this work and always with terrific good humour. No doubt more later....

09:198706Another sad day for Dover.
I wish Roger all the very best for the future.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

09:388707If there is ever a man for the community it is Roger, but as he points out in his email if his members & cardholders do not mention the scheme, it cannot work to its full capability. A Sad Day.....

12:438712Roger, sad to hear your news of the demise of the Dover Loyality Scheme, you have done a stalwart job with this scheme and I'm sure you will go on to have many more successes. Shure as your photo portrays on the home page at present you are a beaming beacon of light shining out to all. Good luck for the future. I'm sure Jean will be delighted to have you around more at home now. I know she has a list of jobs waiting for you he!he!

16:538733Quite amazed that there are so few comments about this. I know there are some on the frontpage too but nonetheless. Its almost as if people will just let any amount of bad news just roll over them without hardly a murmur.
Roger worked very hard on this in an effort to secure some loyalty and life for the local shops....but its all come to nothing.

17:108734I have sent a private e-mail to Roger the second I got my e-mail this morning.
He knows how I feel, and it may well be that others to have privatley sent e-mails.
Yet another great service gone from Dover. Makes me wonder just how much more down turn Dover can stand really.

17:308739I agree with PaulB, the forum members and the ever expanding readership need to know what the local communities viewpoints on this are, as it affects the whole spectrum with the loss of all Roger's hard work. It's great that private emails are being sent but some people looking in will feel that the support wasn't there for Roger.

18:438744Saddened to hear this news - but pleased to read that he will continue to keep us all updated even though the scheme is failing...
Apathy appears to rule supreme and even tireless chaps like Roger cannot go on for ever.
Best wishes to Roger..
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

21:308747I don't think Roger will just fade into the background. He will find something else because he is an enthusiastic and good hearted fella who likes to be doing instead of just talking. Good luck Roger, I expect to be hearing from you soon.

12:098777Thanks very much guys.
Sorry I hadn't been the first to post about it - I meant to early Thursday morning but a BIG Thank You Paul for doing so for me.
I spent literally hours and hours yesterday reading and replying to the many emails of support, sadness and disappointment that I had decided to stop running the Scheme.
KM/FM phoned yesterday asking for info as Graham T. would like to do a story next week, I'll be pleased to read that.
It seems more than a little sad that due to apathy or indifference (are they the same ?) many people didn't use their cards; maybe there weren't the different types of shops they wanted as members; maybe that was because the shops weren't selling the scheme to their customers, so it didn'tr look as if it was working. I don't know the answer, if I did, I'd still be running it.
I do think that if the Scheme had been given more moral and financial support from various quarters, more notice of it would have been taken by the public and businesses.
I now accept that no individual enterprise (unpaid or not) can be a success, it needs the support of a bigger body, whether that body is one of the following: the Town or District Councils or the Harbour Board, or a partnership of all three - £10,000 from each of them would secure the future of any business support body.
I had an offer from a local businessman for an office, a desk, chair, phone etc. for any future initiative - and he wasn't even a member of the Loyalty Scheme, as you can imagine, this was really appreciated; as I said above, it still needs the support of one or more major sponsors.
I hope I won't just fade into the background Kathy - thanks for that. There's so much to do as was evident from last night's Town Council's Corporate Plan discussion.
Without sounding big-headed, all of them could be done relatively easily and I'd love to be given the chance to do them: from dilapidated buildings in Dover; disgraceful closed down shops, weeds in flower boxes, dpac initiatives, tourism, including group travel etc. etc.
Maybe I've upset some people in the past because I've grumbled about things not being done or not happening quick enough, I must have upset someone important at sometime I guess.

14:298789I am very sorry about this, Roger. I know how hard you work. All congratulations to you, though, for trying, and for truly having your heart in the right place.
By the way, I can't imagine you ever being able to upset anyone!

16:578798Know you will do well Roger and remember, if you upset someone important by promoting the town you are almost certainly doing something right.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
