2013 is the Centenary of Coaling for Tilmanstone Colliery and following the successful celebrations in 2012 for Snowdown, they are organising many special events throughout next year. This year's Festival will be another festival to remember.

Also, I am delighted to announce that we have teamed up with East Kent Railway, which, along with our Mining Heritage Exhibitions, will bring something very special to the festival.

Your help required: Wetherspoons Banner Project.

From the Front: Dover War Memorial have sent me their summer Newsletter. A very good read; there's even an obituary to my dearest Jean who died in May. I have attached their Newsletter to this one - it has been checked for viruses, so is safe to download.

    Between Beacon and Shaft:
A special opportunity to experience story telling with music in two of Dover's atmospheric historical buildings: The Drop Redoubt on Dover's Western Heights and the Grand Shaft, a unique triple spiral staircase - both of which are rarely open to the public.

    There are two performances:
    28th September 2013, 3pm - 5pm. and 29th September 2013, 3pm - 5pm

A one-off opportunity to experience storytelling and music in Dover's atmospheric Drop Redoubt and Grand Shaft: Between Beacon and Shaft, performed by Nicolette Picheral and Dover-based electric guitarist Colin Hinds, under the direction of Stéphane Vérité, is a specially written fable about maritime borders, particularly the Straits of Dover that the French know as "the Sleeve", weaving together quotes from historical archives and a fictional mysterious beacon.

The event starts up on the Western Heights in the Drop Redoubt's caponier 3 and ends at the bottom of the Grand Shaft. There is a limit of 50 people for each performance. The performance will be in English.

This event is suitable for walkers, as the venues are not fully accessible and you will need to walk from the Drop Redoubt to the Grand Shaft and down through it. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes: the venues are unheated, the weather may be inclement and the ground is uneven. Please note that there are no toilets on site.

    For more information please contact: Joanna Jones: +44 (0)7855 832 638, or: Clare Smith: +44 (0)77 66111 075

    Have a good week-end.

    Roger
