Seafront gardens
- 9 April 2008 22:181103I was looking out of the kitchen window at work today and couldn't help but marvel at how lovely the gardens in front of the Gateway Flats are looking at the moment. PaulB from your vantage point in Boland Towers I don't suppose you could get a good photo of them could you, for all to see?
Claire - 9 April 2008 22:241104Also, I meant to add all the shops from the British Heart Foundation to Scope by the market square are looking better than I've ever seen them, I think several must have had a facelift. What a difference it makes.
- 10 April 2008 06:531107Claire okay will aim to get a picture for you later. Yes the seafront is Dover's best tourist asset and woefully under used for much of the year..even in summer! The DDC take care of the gardens as I understand it and the DHB take care of the beach side of things. Thats how I understand it anyway. It must be one of the cleanest seafront areas anywhere along the coast so full marks to all concerned.
Its interesting only a few days ago it was covered in snow with some boys making a large snowman. Now all that snow is gone, the snowman lingered on, but it was full blast glorious spring weather then yesterday..so what a climate!email: dover7@msn.com - 10 April 2008 08:021110Has anyone noticed the return of the lovely sandy beaches at a couple of places on Dover beach.Is there a reason for this?
Not complaining... we were down there yesterday a.m teaching Natascha to ride her bike without stabilizers.It took an hour but she mastered it
.As I took a breather I leaned over the rails opposite the lookout miner and noticed the beautiful sandy beaches only yards from the sea wall.Marek

Years ago when we were looking around to move one of the things we noticed was the lovely seafront. Along with the local beauty and glorious historical factors as well as the well-reputed schools, it helped us to make our choice.
- 10 April 2008 10:381120The gardens in front of the Gateway flats are absolutely lovely and kept really well. I remember when I was very young the sunken gardens had water fountains, and way back before that my mother remembers that they were lit up with coloured lights. It's a pity that that that feature was done away with for whatever reason as it must have been a really attractive effect.

It's a shame that some idiot has lobbed a traffic cone and an oblong yellow and white island marker into the sea just in front of the yacht club.Hopefully when the tide goes out someone will retrieve it.Marek

Briony actually learned down here on the grassy areas too, not before falling into a bush or two en route...but they were such elegant falls and oh so daintily done!
Yes unfortunately people do chuck everything in the sea. There was even a report on TV today about the amount of plastics in there. People throw everything in even unfortuately the lifebelt circular things go in from time to time.

DHB do a very good job.
the bit towards the eastern dock can look a right mess, this is run by the environment agency.
i seem to remember nigel posting a few years back that DHB ran things as far as the bogs opposite the hotel/pub. - 10 April 2008 22:271131Thanks Paul, that's not a bad photo at all, and what a comparison! Shows just how variable our English weather can be!
