Well here we are well into Covid and still the people of Dover, by and large, are not taking it at all seriously. Everywhere I go I see the bulk of people without masks with no intention of keeping away from anyone else. I do my best. I cross the road to avoid them, and if I am noticed doing so I get nasty looks. The staff in Morrisons are just as bad, apart from checkout staff, who sit behind ludicrous plastic screens which do nothing to help them. Not their fault of course. The latest from a BBC website dedicated to local virus statistics shows that Dover is on a serious increase of positive cases, as of today Wednesday 14th October 2020. No surprises there then. I am livid that these selfish people put my life at risk. I wear a mask to protect them but they do not wish to reciprocate. Should they contract this virus they will complain bitterly. It is all age groups not adhering to the rules. Sigh.

I have no idea what time you shop in Morrisons but whenever I have been in there, anytime from 7.30 am onwards, the shop floor staff are all wearing masks, even my daughter when she comes to speak to me and we live in the same house.
I am one of those who only wears a mask in a shop so next time you see this selfish fat old lady on her mobility scooter be prepared to cross the road then I can escape all those other equally nasty bugs
you might be carrying on your cloths.

You can only look after yourself mate, keep doing what you are doing.
Dover has loads of people who look like Covid will finish them off - so so many people on scooters - so keep wearing your mask, and wait for the virus to sweep through the town.

There are concerns over the wearing of masks , and all we can do is to the upmost ourselves .
Following govt guidance .
Although there are those that have problems wearing a mask , maybe like those in Morrisons who are staff and can't wear a mask actually have a badge to show they are unable.
I think those that are unable to apply for some kind of card , as I do feel the system is one that some just use it as an excuse not to wear one.
The difference between wearing a mask and running the risk of ending up in oxygen is enough for me .
There are quite a few people that don't bother
It's on buses , trains , in shops, and around
Not enforced by bus drivers or anyone

If I can pretend your mask protects me, then you can pretend I'm wearing a mask. Quid pro quo and all that. It'd be selfish not to, don't you think?
btw I hope you're not feeling
too guilty about all those times you didn't wear a mask during previous killer viral epidemics; it must be difficult to live with the burden of thinking about all those lives you put at risk. Don't think I don't believe you mean what you say, though. The alternative would be for me to believe you're wearing a mask simply because of obedience to the random warblings of a clown in public office, and not through any choice of your own. And I need to protect my sides from bursting.

Well, Chris, you could take 2014/2015 as an example. PHE recorded 28,330 deaths from influenza in England alone. This contributed to excess deaths in England and Wales that winter of 43,900 (36,300 of which were in the 75s and over). According to ONS '...influenza-like-illness rates rose above the epidemic threshold in week 50 and remained above or at that threshold until week 14':
https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/excesswintermortalityinenglandandwales/201415provisionaland201314final
There were 50,100 excess winter deaths in England and Wales in 2017/2018, with influenza being a major cause of the rise over the previous winter's figure. Then there was 1999/2000...
WHO estimate up to 650,000 annual influenza-associated deaths globally.

Good work on naming an epidemic, but you missed the part about being equally as widespread and contagious.
