02:3340526Do you get sentimental over anything? I do. Lots. Steam locomotives, old buses, aircraft, ships, buildings, cemetries, Dennis the the Menace, Desperate Dan, Golliwogs, ................ Just the British one`s, nothing against foreign, it`s just that there`s something about my own country`s past that I love. Nothing to do with politics, nationalism, just plain, simple, uncomplicated pure sentimentality. I love the past, hate the present, and hope the future is better for all. You?

08:2640535Nostalgia Colin.
I seem to have it more as I've got older; either that or the past just seems so much better -less violent, less nastiness, less laziness by so many people.
The past is always seen through rose-tinted testicles, sorry, spectacles though isn't it ?
I always look to the future and have high hopes for it, but there are certain aspects of it that scare me.

09:3940546Yes, I often think I was born in the wrong time!
I agree with Roger in that we often see the past through rose-tinted spectacles.

11:1040549Ah - nostalgia. It's not what it used to be. (sorry, just had to say it). However, I think it is people and what we used to do with them that we miss. I remember Sunday walks through Dover with my father, the warm streets, the smell of a myriad dinners cooking and then down to the Docks where he seemed to know everybody and took me across the lock gates (incidentally leaving me with a life long fear of same which did not work out well when I went on a narrow boat holiday).

12:1540553It is also that lovely time when we didn't have the responsibilities and losses we now have, at our age. The older I get, the more losses and pains I have, the more I remember the past as a beautiful country!!

12:2540561I do get sentimental over steam trains and some of the classic old films that tug at the heart strings. The Yearling and Gone With the Wind for instance.
But that's it. Life is all about NOW and to spend time looking back and wishing for those long gone days is to miss the opportunity that life presents today. I will always prefer to look forward than backward.

12:3240563Same here Sid, life is now, and I don`t want to give the impression I want the past back. The steam locomotive was an often filthy, dirty uneconomical machine, and I view everything else with it as pure nostalgia. Hating the present just refers to me and my personal interest`s, along with the disappointment`s. I`m always looking at the future. Got my 2 precious daughter`s so I`m happy in that respect.

13:0740566Without looking back, though, we risk making the same silly mistakes. Some of those silly mistakes, though, were fun, it has to be said..........

18:4240604I love my vinyl Lp's and the Linn system that I play them on - I sold my car to by the system back in the 80s and I'm sure that they sound far superior to CD's.
Play a tune and you are right back there, transported through without need for a souped-up DeLorean, Tardis or anything.
Tavares and 'Don't take away the music' or 'Heaven must be missing an angel' do it for me every time - pure sentiment and nostalgia.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........
