Old friend of Dover and former Conservative leader of KCC, Sir Sandy Bruce Lockhart has died of cancer age 66.
Over the last year he served as Chairman of the Local Government Association.
Terrible news, a great loss....

One small correction to my first rather hurried post, over the last year he was Chairman on English Heritage on giving up as Chairman of the LGA after a few years in that role.

i read about the man in the sunday times about 10 years ago, long before i had any thoughts of moving to kent.
apparently he was a great innovator, that broke the mould of local government thinking.
very sad to see him go at only 66.

He was the man who drove & delivered the the recent £3.8m funding for Dover. We met last year to agree to put the bid together.Pencester skate park was also his project for Dover Youth in conjunction with DDC.
He was also a very good friend of mine & a true gentleman. He was "the national giant" in local government over the past decade.
I was away on hols when the news broke. I hope there will be announcement of a suitably located memorial service. Canterbury Cathedral would be appropriate for such a revered Kentish & national figure.

let us all hope that it remains private, if that is what the family want.
