14:385768The drawings of the Castle Street elevations look great too - keeping the Art Deco fascade, reinstating the windows, the lobby area retained...
Lets hope DDC agree this asap and it can start work !
Been nice knowing you :)

14:475769That'd be great if they kept the art deco facade on Castle Street (doing it up considerably, of course!).
Come on DDC - get on with approving this once and for all. We need to see the first green shoot of recovery very soon...

16:055771Let us hope something does get moving. I have sat on planning at DTC for just over a year now and in that time we have approved three sets of plans for the former Snoops site, only to see them withdrawn again shortly afterwards. This one is down to the owners, not the councils.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

16:545774Seeing that picture I got a throwback to the "Eagle", I wonder why?

ps I'm not referring to the pub.

17:135776I am sure that this sort of frontage would go a long way towards regenerating this area: (plus like the Dolphin name!)
Been nice knowing you :)

18:355777I really like that and I'm all for retaining Art Deco features.

19:035779This is just a more detailed plan of the application submitted last year, is it not? For what it is, it is a good design, the only real change being opening the end of the building and adding louvres, instead of encasing it in solid metal cladding as previously proposed. I think it's a bit of a shame that the apartment balconies shown in this 'money shot' will have such a delightful view over a supermarket carpark!

19:585784personally, this sounds like another red herring from wetherspoons.
nigel has been on to them to do something about the dump, no doubt repeatedly.
this makes it look like they are planning something.

20:015786Howard - I would hope not, they have invested in new drawing and carried out archaeological excavations which they don't need to do
Been nice knowing you :)

01:335792It's a shame they didn't go that little bit further and invest in a paint job to see the building through too....also some weeding on the face of the bulding wouldn't go amiss either - just pulling that tree out thats growing on the second floor would be a start....!

16:105836A fascinating thread Scotchie, very interesting all round. Yes Jeanette I was only yesterday looking at the increase in vegetation again on the building. Earlier in the year they did put up scaffolding to remove a huge amount of greenery and the old sign...but it has come back, the vegetation that is not the sign !
Lets hope we can all see an end to this nightmare soon.

18:095840I'm sorry I know you all like it but I just think it looks like some sort of state of the art prison!
At least though, the prison looking bit will be at the back of the building so Castle Street will be able to retain its Georgian charm. In which case the view from the apartment balconies will in fact be overlooking that lovely multi-story carpark rather than the supermarket carpark, that's presuming it will still be there of course....
Just had a couple of seconds thinking time on that little thought and yep it probably will be!

20:535852Didn't know Art Deco was Georgian !!
Serious though, the frontage is probably budleia growing and this summer it has grown ridiculously fast - up the Heights there is some that has sprouted a foot or two since being cut in May
Been nice knowing you :)

13:455880Art Deco isn't Georgian but Castle Street is & I think it should be left that way
