Did any one go to school on this forum as the spelling is appalling.?
Pity it did not have a spell checker.

Is my spelling really that bad ?
Yes, I did go to school, and I was taught never to put a full stop and a question mark at the end of a sentence, because the little dot at the bottom of the '?' acts as a '.'.

I,ve belonged to various forums, some with members and moderators that whing on and on about proper spelling and use of puntuation marks, etc, etc. What makes this one special is that it is relaxed and members from all walks of life and different levels of education can join and enjoy. As long as we can understand each other, then whats the problem?Lets all enjoy the forum and not turn it into a school of grammer as so many other forums have become.

I wouldn't normally have the temerity to criticize other people's spelling, punctuation and grammar etc., although I did have a pop at lord ripley's the other day after he was rather rude about Vic's mis-spelling of something or other. Everyone on the forum has a right to post, and it should not be forgotten that some people suffer from dyslexia, and others may not have been fortunate enough to have a wonderful education like some of us. In fact I would go as far as to say that post #1 is downright rude.

Nicely summed up by andy and barrie, as long as we understand what point is being made the rest is irrelevant.

Well done boys perfectly put.
I have always thought it rude to complain about someone's spelling as that person might have a dyslexia or some other problem.
I hope the lady in question never makes an error on here as someone will now point it out.

It would of been appropriate to get conditional frases write, their easy to learn really, but one shouldn,t put a full stop or a comma after an exclamation mark, as the the dot beneath it terminates the frase.

Eleanor, gee you sure can spell
And you really do it well
You're our pride and joy, et cetera
Eleanor, can I take the time
To ask you to continue to speak your mind
Tell us that you love us better...

Sounds like you are trying to make sure that Eleanor doesn't post on here again.
I think spelling is important and I always check what I have written/typed, sometimes a mistake slips through and if I'm unsure how to spell a word, I pick up the dictionary.
I wouldn't however, publicly criticise other people for their poor spelling.
It has been stated that Britain has amongst the poorest spellers in Europe, so perhaps it's not surprising that spelling is sometimes quite poor on here.

Unakustomed as I am to piblic speaking, it nevertheless falls upon me now to say a few words on this topic that could change the curse of historee. It is very impotent to get your spelling write as it leaves a lasting impreshun on the reader, this is especially impotent if you are trying to get a serios massage across. As you can see from my effluent prose, I have a first class degree in English Lit from a leading university..yes none other than the Morris Oxford itself, and have no need of a spellchecker or anything of that naturr. I threw my dictionaries on the bonfire one Novemeber years ago when the bloody flames nearly died out in a shower, but now its all in my head anyway. People would do well to follow my example and seek purfection in all things.
