I could tell these guys werent tourists straight away..they kind of stuck out in the landscape and as a consequence always worth a look. So with binoculars in hand I am almost certain its Bill Fawcuss (DHB Bigwig) on the right and perhaps Tim Ingleton second from left ( DDC Bigwig).. however they were at such a distance that it even overstretched my considerable zoom...but I bet they are discussing the cable car!!!

Look at those arm gestures from Bill Fawcuss and wonder what else it could be. They are looking directly down over my head into the harbour. I suspect the others in the shot are English Heritage..and believe me, English Heritage are very serious about the Cable Car.
Okay...a lot of wild speculation there, but it may well be true. if only I had microphones to match the zoom.

The man on the left looks like Frederick Scales, the Deputy Leader at DDC.

I know Frederick Scales Roger, he`s from the weights and measures department.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

Good to hear that English Heritage are serious about the cable car. I know there are a lot of people who think this is "pie-in-the-sky" but I certainly think it is an idea worthy of a detailed technical and commercial evaluation as to its potential.

Just to add to this when i was on the town council in 2004 I was talking to the DHB about a cable car to the castle from the Motes Bulwark site, this is the letter back from them.
Dear Cllr Matcham.
Thank you for sending me the interesting paperwork in respect of the above.
I have kept copies of this and will investigate the postion further.
In the event that there is any prospect of the Dover Harbour Board participating in the scheme,I will contact you again.
kind regards Yours sincerely S.W, Fawcus, General Manager, Property &Planning.
So you see this not anything new but Mr Fawcus is very good at what he does and will be agreat help in geting this done ,but it will be the planning dept at the DDC that could hold it up or even stop it going ahead.

Yes indeed I was at a business function up there at the Castle some time ago and was surprised to find that the Cable Car was something real, having initially thought myself that it was an april fool joke, but no.. reality is kicking in. The Castle see it as a fantastic tourist novelty which will wheel people/visitors in directly to them on a huge daily basis. People will use the Cable Car as a novely while at the same time the CC destination will obviously set these people down in the clutches of the Castle...so its a cant lose for the Castle.
The alternative, although much less glamouous alternative, to the Cable car idea was mooted by Deputy Mayor David Hannent at his recent business lunch in the Light of India. During that lunch he suggested that the coach park at the top of the hill, you know the one next to the Castle, be closed and a new coach park found within the realms of the Town...so that the Town benefits from Castle visitors too. Another interesting idea there perhaps..although the mightier move seems to be behind the Cable Car at this time.
I wonder will a statement be issued. If indeed it is Frederick Scales in the picture, who is Deputy Leader to Paul Watkins, but alas alas he is not a man given much to communication with the voter. Something of a grey ghost.

No statement to issue Paul. Frederick Scales was not one of the four present. The group were doing a tour of Dover's development sites. Tim Ingleton regularly invites interested parties to Dover. Nothing special to report.
No "hares to start running".
