Just to let you all know.
A female colleague on her way to work yesterday was robbed with a knife held to her throat, mobile phone and other effects taken.
I don't know all of the details yet but as far as I am aware it was along Charlton Green at about 6pm.
I won't know any more details until Wednesday.

nasty. Knives again.
We must sort out this joke of a justice system and get some proper punishment in place for these low lives.

Good grief, what a horrible thing to happen. Your poor colleague. I hope she is getting lots of support, and I'm sure she will feel shaken up for a long time. I'm so sorry to hear this.
I sincerely hope that this assailant will be apprehended, too.
I see the story is on the mercury's website

So it was along Barton path.
Two years ago CCTV was installed and it was heaven for 2 months, the drug dealers vanished as did the underage drinking and antisocial behaviour.
They took the camera away and within 24hrs 2 cars got torched and all the old problems came back.
The camera was a deterent but I suppose because nothing was going on they thought it was not worthy of being there.
An opportunity missed to get scum bags off the street.

After speaking today to the lady in question I have to admit it was quite a harrowing experience to say the least, and it happened about 100yrds from my home. she asked me if I heard the screams, she actually pleaded for her life, but the foreign git probably couldn't understand her.
She did say the police where excellent in their procedure but she felt as though she was the guilty party after all the DNA tests. she was talked through all of the stages and it did make her feel better.
The details made me cringe.
Dave 1..
If that is in the front of your mind and you actually witness it, are you telling me you would do nothing? would you walk away?

How awful for your colleague Ian. I hope she is able to get some justice and put this behind her. The unfortunate truth is if it was a "foreign git" his DNA probably isnt registered.
I sincerely hope she makes a good recovery.

So awful for this poor woman, to have to suffer this appalling attack, I used to use the Barton Path quite frequently on my way to and from the office, but it felt quite uneasy at times as some undesirables commonly use the path, a pity, as it was a nice walk by the river on a sunny day. I wish her well and hope that she gets all the help she needs

After an initial few days of shock, she has now come to terms with it but is still fuming.
One must remember especially females, never use a mobile phone in a secluded spot. A very easy target for the scum we must live with.

This whole thread has made me feel so sad. Old and wise as I am, there are still things that can reach me.

It does make you very angry - and in broad daylight - not that that excuses it at all.
I'm sure there are a lot of people would love to get their hands on this (a good use of the word this time round) scumbag.
If the camera worked and made the area quiet and crime free, is there not an argument for asking the Police to speak up for installing one there ?
Could the District Councillors not get involved in this ?

the problem think here is, that the police always say that the pictures were not good enough to get an identification.
on the other hand when there is a high profile case that reaches the Old Bailey, somehow they get computer enhancement that secures a conviction.

Not always Howard, but agree that sometimes they're not that good and if people are wearing hoodies, no camera will identify them.
Ian did say that when cameras were there, they kept crime down and life was O.K. when the cameras went, crime came back. So there's a strong argument for them there.
