17:3810741That must make Cameron a national non-entity.

17:4510744A Fraudian slip perhaps....
The problem is that people thinks he really means that. After all isnt he the superman who claimed to have changed the rules of economic to have banned boom and bust!

17:5710749The people of Britain said in a poll yesterday that they trusted Gordon Brown to deliver on the economy much more than Cameron I believe.
For those that didnt see PMQs, and maybe only were made aware of the slip by the PM by a message from central Office, you may be interested to know that Nick Clegg told the Commons he'd had a women turn up at his surgery and she was terrified, this got much more of a laugh. No-one is trying to suggest that the Lib Dem leader terrifies his consituents as yet.

Thats correct. The tories still have an overall lead of 4 points but when asked who they trusted more with handling the countries economies the polls showed an increased lead for Gordon over Cameron.

19:4110754I am not sure why this slip of the tongue would make GB a national embarassment any more than, say, cycling to work with a blaze of publicity to big up your green credentials while having the roller drive behind just in case................

22:1210775Bern - it is very Fraudian and goes to the heart of Brown's inadequacies.
Imagine if Mrs T or Blair made such a slip, they would have joined in the laughter and made a self depreciating quip that would have neutralised it. Brown lacks the personality and is totally unable to think on his feet. He does not know how to respond outside his set script. This is a very serious weakness in any leader.

23:5010777Desperate or what? For all you know Barry he is out saving the world in his spare time. On this item the Beeb earlier showed your Mrs T having a slip up saying 'We are a grandmother'. No-one thought she was inadequate or mad [no-one in the Tory Party that is].

00:1110780interesting that barry still uses "fraudian".
i would not mention it normally, but as he picks me up so often on matters of grammar, it is only fair to point these things out.

00:5610784Yes Sid and the other classic she came out with was that every prime minister needs a willy, referring to Willie Whitelaw.

08:0010795The Willy comment was indeed funny and demonstrates Mrs T's sense of humour.
The 'we' comment did indeed come out wrong, she was clearly referring to herself and Dennis.
The main difference really being the context and the fact that in the Commons Brown had a chance to turn the laughter and derision to his advantage but was not quick witted enough.
The man is simply a dork.
I have just had another listen to what he said for a laugh and noticed something that escaped me earlier.
He actually goes on to tell a whopping big lie....
He says no-one, no UK depositor has lost a penny. That is simply untrue.
Anyone who had cash with the collapsed Icelandic banks will have lost interest between the day the bank went bust and receiving their compensation payment. Not a lot of money perhaps but there are others who have lost a lot more.
Non being my clients fortunately. I was told about another IFA who obtained a Moody's A rating for the Kauphinedge Bank in September (a good rating) and therefore invested £300,000 of a client's portfolio there. That person is expected to get back just 70p in the £ as it was not an internet account that ING assumed responsibility for.
There are a lot more people in that position and Brown must know of them so he deliberately lied, yet again.
So yes - FRAUDian is a good word to have used in respect of Brown's gaff.

09:1410804When it is less possible to attack poilitics, people wanting a scrap become personal. MacMillan was ugly, Churchill was drunk, Major was a boring adulterer - none of those things actually matter until their politics are beyond attack, then they kick in.

10:2010808Even at his most inebriated Churchill demonstrated a wit far quicker than Brown on his best day. A quick wit must be essential for a PM, after all, he is expected to go into negotiations with other leaders!
This slip up will haunt Brown for the rest of his life, it is a gift to sketch writers, comedians and the opposition.....

Only you fin so~)and your little friends~)
I think Marek and Bern make good points, and they are in the real world rather than just attacking the PM in political point scoring exercise.
no wonder people don't wanna post on this thread

10:5110814So Keith, why dont you tackle the actual facts and points I make, if I am so wrong, instead of making insultingly drivial posts as the one above. At least It is possible for me to have a reasonable and often intelligent conversation with Bern and Marek but you dont seem ever to want to actually engage on the specific points I raise.

12:3310817This wont haunt Gordon Brown for a day let alone his lifetime, get a grip. It aint even chip paper. You are even too arrogant and shortsighted to accept the point I made yesterday: that he might in fact be out saving the world in his spare time. Better to be governed by someone who wants to serve than those Bullyingdon Club bullies I say.

17:1410828A quick wit and a laugh vs moral gravitas and a good heart. A close call.......which is the grown up?

20:0710838Sid, so you think this wont haunt Gordon Brown, well that is not what the PH100 panel think:
""""Andrew Rawnsley, PoliticsHome
Westminster is still gently vibrating to the sound of the laughter at yesterday's Prime Minister's Questions when Gordon Brown made a Freudian slip and hubristically claimed to have 'saved the world'. Fifty nine per cent of the politically balanced panel believe that the media and opponents will use the phrase to taunt him through to the election. All the groups on the PH100 - the MPs and peers, the media panellists, the party strategists and the heads of think tanks - believe 'I saved the world' will haunt Gordon Brown for the rest of this parliament."""
Bern. What 'moral gravitas'? there is nothing moral about landing our children with a huge debt that they will have to repay. As for a 'good heart', you have to be kidding!
