09:4930838James Hill - a fella after my own heart!! I will not even attempt to "be fair" to Tesco, PaulB - they suck the heart out of a community, destroy local markets and suppliers, and are, for me, the epitome of evil in the retail world. They will suck us in with the promise of local produce, and screw us around once we are hooked.

13:2730925I wonder how far those coxes travelled to be weighed, bagged and distributed? And a good point well made, Roger, about the farmers. And Howard - another very good point.

17:2130941the farmers get stuffed on price by the giants, getting worse by the day.
tescos claim this is to help the customer, not as if they make a profit, is it?
dairy farmers are going to the wall on a regular basis, the milk costs more to produce than they get paid.

19:0030961Do you ever notice it`s mostly the junk food on offers, buy one get one free. How about the 5 a day for health racket. What about buy 3 get 2 free, after all, they`ll be helping there customers to live longer and come back and spend more money. How about it tescos?

was on the news at the weekend that the supermarkets are considering vouchers on their bogof offers, so that the customer can come back another time and redeem it.

20:1730971You keep on about Tescos and what they pay to the farmers, and that is Ok with me,but would pay more if Tescos paid out more to the famers,? in most cases that would be a no you would go to a store which cost less, and that is what it is all about the Cost.

they are not cheaper, just more convenient to some.
everyone has access to good greengrocers, butchers, farmers markets etc, where the food is better and cheaper.

21:2030978But it isn't cheap Vic! They charge the earth and still screw the farmers.
The meat they sell is full of water...tasteless water at that! The fruit and veg is overpriced and never lasts. The BOGOFs should be BOTOAs (buy one throw one away. On top of this, the one you do buy is normally overpriced anyway. Why can't people understand Tesco are not here to help us, save us money, or even make our lives easier, they are bad.
Not content with destroying community shopping and town centres, Terry Leahy now also comments on the politics and education standards too. A man, that depends on his customers being as ignorant as possible, thinks standards are woeful and that companies like Tesco are 'left to pick up the pieces'. All this 'wisdom' as he sells salt ladened, BOGOF TV dinners to a section of society with no dining table. Of course in he doesn't actually explain 'how' Tesco pick up the pieces, or is it that he just offer them jobs?
Now I'm not saying our education system is perfect, just that Mr Leahy should keep his capitalist mouth shut. Tesco offers many good jobs and is the biggest private employer in the country. However you could make a good argument that these jobs would have existed in the highstreet before they were destroyed by out of town shopping. Additionally they would have been retail jobs that were specialised, requiring a greater skill set than those asked for by Mr Leahy.
I remember this from a few years ago and found it on youtube to allow you to see to the future of Tesco...

16:3031016Howard, Yes I heard that Tesco is to introduce buy one get one free later deals to help shoppers cut down on food waste. We can postpone getting our free second promotional product until a later shopping trip which would avoid perishables being thrown away if not eaten on time. At checkout we would receive a voucher which will carry a deadline to go back and get a second pack free. Well you know what they say 'Every little bit helps'
