  Hi all,
  
  Just to let you know that Dave Flynn's marvellous The Allotment restaurant yesterday (Sunday) received a very favourable review from The Observer's notoriously hard-to-please food critic Jay Rayner (think AA Gill with fewer of the Hunter S Thompson flourishes and worse tailoring).
  
  Under the headline 'Dover soul', The Allotment received a full page review in the Observer magazine - the restaurant of the week, in other words.
  
  Congratulations to Dave and his excellent staff on what is a real feather in the cap for a superb restaurant. The Allotment does the town a great service by doing things properly and with a wonderfully understated style and panache. It has really raised the bar, and it'd be nice to see other establishments following suit.

  Have just read that report in the Guardian and yes it is great to see Dover and one of its novel restaurants getting a good national plug...
  "up to now Dover used to be place you went to to go somewhere else"
  say The Guardian, and of course thats the way most people see the town.
  "but now we have a reason to linger" so there we are, high praise indeed for The Allotment Restaurant. Putting Dover on the eaterie map where no Dover restaurant has gone before.
  
  I havent been as yet but one day soon....

  I agree the Allotment is a very good restaurant with first-class food, service and ambience.
  
  Jean and I dined there at the end of September and I put a long posting on here about every aspect of our visit - very enjoyable, but because quality doesn't come cheap, you can't go there too often.
  
  Another point to mention is that it is truly excellant to have a whole page (or even a quarter) dedicated to the Allotment in a National paper, but it needs local advertising and marketing too.
  
  The night we dined it was full, but most evenings it's been open (Weds. to Sat ?) since, it's been almost empty, which is a great shame.
  
  Good Luck to them - they deserve it.
