Not necessarily Bern.
The Government does have proposals to reduce the number of MPs by 10%.
with our Parliamentary system in which the executive is drawn from the legislature you cannot reduce the 'talent pool' by that amount
Imagine a Parliament with 325 members.
A government with a minimal majority would have 163 members.
That means over 100 of them would be on the government payroll vote. The pool of talent from which to draw new ministers would be tiny and government backbenchers would have reduced power and influence because they would be fewer that the payroll. There would simply be no room for awkward backbenchers any more and that would be a loss.
One of the excellent things about becoming a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic society is presumably those 'abroad' are less willing to wipe out their own people in event of conflict???
