I was discusted but not surprised to see secret filming of Bnp members saying racist things about people who dare to question them, surely they should not be able to take part in any election .

I heard that on Sky News this morning, it only confirms what people already thought about them, I am sure the electorate will pass judgement on their bile on the 6th May.

I`ve only read the leaflets through the door, plus what`s been put on here about them. In a nutshell, what upsets people the most about them?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

Of course they should be allowed to stand for election, Mark - we are a democracy. They are an evil nasty bunch that deserve to be exposed for what they are and its nice to see it being done.
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

banning them would be like using a sledghammer to crack a walnut.
besides once we start banning people from speaking where will it end.
they have a chance in only 2 seats out of over 600.
If i made those comments i could be arrested, i agree they may only challenge for a couple of seats, surely they cannot getaway with making such comments ?
Being allowed to stand for election is one thing, and of course any party should, if only because it exposes their idiocy. However - clearly people don't have the right to pedal racism. Two different issues.

Let them say what they want, its free speech. Let them expose themselves, make fools of themselves and then destroy them at the polls. We are supposed to be a free country and there is meant to be free speech. Only if they urge people to violence should they suffer penalties.
Mussies don't get penalised for threatening violence, so why should the BNP or anyone else that is non-Islamic?

fully agree with you barry, only when encouragement to attack others is mooted, should there be restrictions.
Hold it a second....
A politician recently caused a storm by expressing his opinions about the Pope and the Catholic church (just to jog your memory it was the comments about the Pope-branded condoms etc). This has been followed by condemnation and criticism and a desire to silence such views.
So are we saying that the BNP should be allowed full range for their opinions about race / religion (because it "exposes them") and nobody else is?
I just don't get the world any more.

incorrect rick, it was someone at the foreign office that made the comments, mind you it did make me laugh.
Mere details Howard, I still think the point is valid.

Free speech, Rick, is one of the most important commodities we have and it needs protecting.
Free speech is one thing but i still stand by my point . Surely giving people a chance to vote for them cannot be good for this country, we have to draw the line some where.

Never, never toy with the kind of policies like that that would make Stalin and Hitler proud.
Once you start down that road then it is a short step to a dictatorship. Who next would you ban? You would be playing right into their hands. They can go under ground, play the persecuted and gain sympathy.
If you want to boost the BNP and give them credability then ban them.
Well, as it happens Barry, I would start with any party's to do with anti-abortion or animal rights.
