....is 32 pages long and more needlessly intrusive as ever. This is Labour's census, previously critisised for being over the top by the Minister now in charge of putting it through. He has had the embarrassment of saying that it is too far down the road to change it and cut it back.
It is time to teach all governments a lesson over this.
We have to complete it by law - so just lie....
Make the data completely worthless by making stuff up, expect an internet campaign to get under way.
What would be wonderfull is that, if done carefully, they wont know who has lied and who has not and to what questions(s) rendering the exercise worthless. You dont even have to lie, just create the possibility that you have, or maybe just to lie to those questions that you object to answering.
Now I expect to become a member of the Jedi Knights and might even have Angelina Jolie over to stay the night for a sleep-in with Liz Hurley and Kelly Brook.....
Good idea. I think I will adopt Klingon citizenship, and make Dover Athletic my religion. I may also claim to be multi-coloured but with colours not listed. I am in the pink of health, green with envy sometimes, blue at election times, and white, as in pure as driven snow (okay that's my lie).

i fail to see why the proposed census cannot be altered.
it would have not have been printed yet so just get the questions amended or deleted as required.

i dont think it is that simple Howard. But as I said, people can choose to make their displeasure clear....of course I would not urge anyone to break the law.....

many people choose not to complete the form for differing reasons, i have never heard of anyone being prosecuted over it.
the census of 1991(i think it was that year) showed that the london borough i lived in was with a large majority of white english people.
the reason was that there were many huge houses that were brought by asians that kept their extended families in.
they believed that the poll tax people would get access to the census, so no-one in their right mind would fill in the form.
I suspect it is not possible to change the Census Form as sitting behind it will be a huge computer system ready to capture the data and analyse it. Changes to software in the public sector take a ridiculous amount of time to complete successfully, and I doubt there is sufficient time left to even begin the process.
As we all know, HMG (whatever colour) are hopeless when it comes to IT. A situation made even worse by only recruiting those who have local government knowledge. The same applies to the NHS of course.
If they got off their fat, arrogant, lazy, overpaid, HR/recruitment backsides and opened their eyes to the full marketplace, they may be pleasantly surprised by the level of talent available, and also maybe get their IT programmes delivered on time and within budget, as per the private sector.

Howard, about 100 people were prosecuted for not completing the last census according to my information.
My suggestion is a much more effective of beating the b******s than to simply refuse....
For f***s sake! Jesus, maybe they can implant recording equipment and CCTV into our living rooms and inspect the way we hold a pen while they're at it. Surely this ancient practice has very little real value in today's world? Surely it's just an expensive tradition being kept up under the pretence that it offers a snapshot of the country?
As valid a snapshot as taking a peek at our poop, I think. Perhaps there's an opening for CCTV there - so to speak................I must have been seeing too much of that dreadful ghoul Gillian McKeith.........

In the 1991 Census I was a collector, then in 2001 I was one of the Census leaders for Dover having 15 people under me,I had to check the forms were completed properly and Barry is correct some people were prosecuted. My living room carpet became the holding centre with 20,000 forms (approx). It was very hard work and several of the staff were reduced to tears.
The collectors will give help and advice but do not give them a hard time, they are only collectors,I think by law all you have to put in is your name address and how many people live at your address,it might have changed for 2011.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

that is all i put on the form, why do they need to know any more?
my ethnic origin and religion is hardly relevant to anyone else.
They need it for social engineering Howard, it's something UK Governments do covertly.
You`re quite right JHG, being a collector is no fun.
Many, many moons ago I did this job simply to supplement my then fairly low wage in order to help pay a few bills etc. Quite simply, it was a job that I vowed never to do again. The area that I covered was River so you would assume that would be a fairly easy patch to go round and whilst the majority of people were ok, I did receive a fair bit of abuse and had one or two forms thrown at me. The whole exercise was nothing but hassle.
So whilst I agree with all the comments on here as to what and why we actually have to divulge certain information don`t take it out on the poor old collector, they`re only trying to earn a few bob and whatever the going rate is these days I doubt it`s a fortune. I also bet that they won`t want to do the job again!

In the census I can state that I came to Dover from Hampshire, one of the Wealden Counties, following the pathway to Eastern Heights, and that is a truth. Wouldn't dream of writing a lie in the census, Barry!

surprising posts from john and john, what sort of idiot would have a go at someone collecting and delivering a form?

Agreed howard, its not their fault that the government is overreaching itself and being too nosy.
