07:1328121I suppose at £7,000 a shot is that a lot?
no DHB shouldnt have to fund it, but there may be good reason why they say no
wonder if we could get a view from them

How long do you plan to live?
As on another thread, have a cigar, pour a scotch and order a kebab.

02:3928246It is the Red Arrows who require all movements to be suspended in any port over which they are displaying. The formation flying is conducted at down to 300 feet, plus the synchro pair can operate down to 100 feet and it is one of those which copped it at Brighton.
The link below is a Notice to Mariners issued by the port of Falmouth for a Red Arrows display this month:

07:3928251Thats an interesting one Ed. The Red Arrows would certainly have needed that situation here but whether it ever got as far as needing to ask for that situation, we cant quite pin down. The Red Arrows probably had their display in Folkestone yesterday( might even be today!) but once again I will repeat myself re Dover as have had many people say this to me...many came from further afield as well as locals to see what they thought was going to be a display here in Dover because of the much heralded celebration of flight that was taking place. They were disappointed. There were literally thousands and thousands of people along the seafront. They werent waiting on a bus! A great opportunity was missed, but Folkestone could manage it...which is particularly galling!

08:0128263Just found these later additions to the air show which may be of interest for you buffs
The Saab J-32 Lansen has, to the best of my knowledge, not been seen at a UK Air Show and Mike has managed to secure the services of 2 for Jersey.
They will be accompanied by a Saab SK60 (Saab 105).
As long as we can get the required permissions in place, Mike Collett has swapped his Dragon Rapide for the Avro Anson for a beach landing.
Mike has also booked a Max Holst Broussard to replace the Bronco.
At the moment it looks like we will have only 2 helis in the park, a Royal Navy Lynx and a RAF Puma.
The Lynx will be from HMS Ocean who will hopefully be gracing the Island with her presence. More on HMS Oceans visit at at later date.
My ATC flying days included a Chipmunk, a Hercules and a 1946 Varsity Bomber. I think I threw up in all of them....

08:1728273That certainly looks a great show Marek. I envy you. I managed to get a close up of a Mustang P51 a couple of weeks ago at a 1940's event held at the old USAAF base, Woodchurch. It did several displays and a couple of times roared at low level 'along' the runway at no more than 20 feet. It ended up outside a hanger where there was a 40's dance going on. A Tiger Moth also performed and we had a fly-by from the Red Arrows as well. Not bad for a small event for no more than 200 people. That sound of that Merlin engine.....

08:3028286PaulB, Ed gives clear information confirming port activity had cease. I think it is quite easy to pin down the port's refusal. People working at the port will substantiate the ports position as will those involved in the organisation. Why would anyone in this town stand in mindless defence of DHB?
Why would the organisers want anything other than a full display? We may as well accept that we, the residents of Dover, are at the hands of the port in. If you don't like it, move to Folkestone.
