- 1 August 2010 21:3263520My wife and myself had a very nice day out today in Canterbury,we went to the Service of Remembrance in the Cathedral of the The Regimental Association of the Queens Own Buffs which was one of the two Regiments I served in . Also there was Mr Ken Tranter and a 91years old Buff who in his day was a desert rat and with them was a very nice lady who was looking after him.We all went for a meal in the Tea rooms outside the Cathedral. There was about 400 of us with our wifes and the Band of the Princess of Waless.After the meal we went to the Bks to all meet up and have a chat I came across some old mates of the Queens Own Buffs Band from the years I was in (1958-1964) and this was the first time I had seen them from all the years gone by. And it ended with the band beating the retreat and Last Post.
We will all meet up again next year both in Canterbury and Folkestone, we have the 50years of the Queens own Buffs next year at Folkestone and I was there on Day 1 in 1961.
- 2 August 2010 09:0463550It was a truly wonderful day and as ever Vic and his wife Leslie were excellent company. I should point out that the 'very nice lady' was my wife and that the gentleman she was looking after had a truly memorable day and was wearing his medals for the first time ever and with an immense amount of pride as indeed he should.
- 2 August 2010 19:0363670Glad it went well Vic sadly I could not be there I myself was in Folkestone, in aid of a project called Step Short were the old vets marched down the road of Remembrances its the route the troops took to catch the ships that took them to France.

Picture just in from Ken from the service mentioned. As is clear to all Im sure by now...that's Vic on the left and Ken on the right. But a new face is Ted Rundell who served in the buffs 1939-1945. He had a very nasty fall just 2 days before the service at Canterbury and received severe bruising, but was determined to attend.
