Is anyone aware that the Park Inn closed as from today???
I am surprised as this was a popular pub ....

Probably owned by a Spurs supporter who has lost the will to live ;)

I haven't been in there for a few years, but the live music nights certainly appeared to be popular. I think it is just too difficult to make a living, let alone a decent living, from a leasehold pub now.

It used to be a good pub/restaurant years ago, but, like you Judith, I haven't been in there for ages.
When Gary Virtue bought it and refurbished it, it had really lovely rooms and lovely bar and dining area, but when he sold it, it lost its sparkle; maybe that's what happens when it is not a free-hold pub. Chains are just too greedy; there's always someone else who believes they can make a good living from it. Mandy had been there for quite a while.

meanwhile just along from the "park inn" the old "falstaff" looks like reopening.

I stopped useing the Park a year or so ago, often empty and cold, bar staff who prefered to chat with their mates then serve a stranger, and one of the most expensive pints in town. No doubt someone will take it on, it could still work if attitudes change.

The Rack of Ale has a nice atmosphere, very welcoming, affordable and friendly landlords. Difficult to get my head round this new concept of micro pubs, but you can't have everything with the price of a pint in most pubs now fast approaching the £4 mark
