21:2370688I placed a rather strong posting up about the Pope's visit and the fact that the Catholic church is so steeped in pedophile allegations at the moment that it seems like an epidemic of child abuse rather than the "few individuals" that the Catholic elite would try and have us believe, but sadly it got removed following some complaints. I will get onto the Pope shortly but first, to the complainers, I say this. It really narks me like hell that my posting has been deleted on the power of your whining. And let's face it, claiming that something is "offensive" is just whining, plain and simple, but "being offended" is regarded as some sort of claim to rights these days and it does seem that my causing offense is a far bigger crime than the child abuse I was having a huge dig at.
Frankly I find child abuse a zillion times more offensive than my harsh dig at the Catholic church and the Pope, but there you go. I've used the world wide web since it was first invented but still it has the power to surprise me. Anyway I will apologise to PaulB for putting him in a difficult situation on this. Sorry Boss!
But anyway, back to my main point. The Pope's visit has had a lukewarm response in the UK, ticket sales to his various events are low, there's all the disgraceful CHILD ABUSE surrounding the Catholic church generally, some called for his arrest in the UK, and so on. I won't repeat what I said earlier (that got deleted) but anyone who saw it will know what I think of that Pope bloke.
What has really added insult to injury for me is the fact that this bitter situation has become a rather sour joke as we tax payers are getting a £12million bill for the "pleasure" of his visit. There will no doubt be plenty of ordinary Catholic folk who don't see the problem with this but for one thing tax money from a secular government should not be wasted on religious events, especially ones which are as dirty as the Catholic church currently is. We're in deep cut backs and we're all struggling at the moment so maybe someone can make sense of why £12m for a visit that nobody except the most devout follows give a damn about when we're in an era where school kids can't get their leaky roof fixed and we face reduced pubic services all over the show.

your infantile and unsubstantiated comments could have closed down the forum.
the issue is not about "whiners" more to do with libel/slander and the fact that your target has more money and legal support that the forum can only dream of.

22:0070698I`ve been out this afternoon and evening and missed all this. Anyway, personally I have no time whatsoever for either the Vatican or any pope`s, purely for their appalling history, an example being the burning at the stake in 1600 of Giordano Bruno for his belief`s in Copernicanism, which in the event turned out to be true, and also the farsical apology in 1992 to poor old Galileo Galilei being kept under house arrest for the remainder of his life for the same thing, though Galileo was forced to recant what he said, and with what happened to Bruno, who could blame him? Apologise, over 300 years later! I`ll stop here, my blood pressure`s rising.

22:1370706I go to a Catholic Church but not a Catholic my wife and her family are Catholics and when our son died we held the service in St pauls Church in Dover, we would go to anychurch because god is in them all and outside to, a church means to us as Gods house and we like to in one.As I have said many times on the Doverforum God is there for all of us 24/7.

22:1770709COLIN;
I share your frustrations and have posted on my own experiences of the catholic faith, thats not to say the church of England is any better because there not.
VIC;
I continue to have a belief, but it is hard when you see so many failings around the world, and with the church's themselves

22:2270714They are human failings not Gods,you do not have to go to anychurch to know God we go because we want to.But I am just as happy if not more just talking to him at home or even when I am out and about,and I like to talk about him to others who wish me to do so.

22:3870729Every religion has its bad apples among its adherents. And every religion has a majority of devout followers who are Good People. Don't blame God or religion for the failings of a minority. The failings are those of human beings, not of God.

22:4970737But if God is supposed to have made human being`s in his own image, our failing`s are down to God not us, surely?

22:5770743COLIN;
I think as said the recent bad publicity will take a long time for the religions to recover from.
Thats not to say many do a good job because they do, Im aware of many very hard working religious people around the District.
And yes PETER there are some bad apples, but quite a few have been named and shamed lately

23:0170745No Colin he gave us our own brain to think with and act so it is not down to him.we all know what is wrong and what is right.It is so easy to put the blame on him and not ourself. I am the very first to say that I am not a verynice person or good one ,but it is down to me to be a better person not God,and I am working on it,some might think I am not doing a good job of it.
