18:4033754i saw a rather moving item yesterday on CNN about the poverty in a lot of african nations, highlighted as we in the west spend like it is going out of fashion at this time of year.
the story focused on a 12 year old boy in burkina faso, his family live in a village without clean water, sanitation or any medical or educational facilties.
the lad whose name is joseph okukwu is the eldest of the 11 children, so it is his job to travel barefoot for an 8 mile round trip over mountainous terrain each day to collect some clean drinking water.
if we forumites clubbed together, the small sum of £.20 would buy him a pair of trainers so that the lazy little devil could then do 2 trips per day.
food for thought there.

20:2933776Being the 12 year old eldest, out of 11 children, there`s something seriously wrong here. Needs education, as well as food etc.

21:3433781i gave that some thought terry, then reached the conclusion that the forumites here would not cough up £.120.00.

08:0333795Africa and it's children will always be deep in poverty because of the regimes they live under.
If the "code for life" could be changed for the leaders/dictators, call them what you will, then it would be a totally different life-style for the people of the whole continent.
The only reason there are small pockets where kids are doing even reasonably well, is where overseas (overseas to Africa) charities are there looking after them and helping with clean water and education etc.
Last night on despatches on Channel 4 was a program about Nigeria and the children who are accused of witchcraft and being witches. These kids are treated in the most awful and degrading manner, some are killed if the parents cannot find the £172 - yes, that's right, £172 (where are people, literally on the bones of their arse, going to find that sort of money ?)
The witchdoctor who was a "Christian Pastor" (yeah right !!) took in so many people because it is easy to do so and made an enormous amount of money from other people's suffering.
The only good thing to come out of it, was that the "pastor" was arrested and locked up.
This is black on black, completely evil and purely to make money out of the less well-educated there.
Is that O.K. Mr. Hook, does that meet with your approval ?

19:0333816i forgot that was on roger, would like to have seen how an oil rich country like nigeria can leave so many people impoverished.
from what i know of the place there seem to be different sets of laws depending where one lives.
in muslim areas sharia law reigns over the national laws, stoning is a commonplace punishment.
we had a case a while back over here where the mutiliated body of a little boy was fished out of the thames, apparently a victim of a witchcraft ritual.
as you point out christianity and witchcraft are intertwined among some african people.

08:3533855That's right Howard.
Maybe the perversity of this (these, as I'm sure there are more than just this one) Pastor and his cruel interpretation of Christianity, helps to understand the perversity of how the good Islam religion, is hi-jacked by and for, twisted islamist terrorists.
If you are wicked/evil, it doesn't matter what religion you steal, it will destroy people's view of that religion.
