apparently they are going for 600 quid each on the black market.
anyone who has one is best advised to make sure that their fences are without escape routes and their gates are kept closed.
loads are going missing everywhere.

Are they going quick or are they going slow Howard?
It makes a difference you know.

Not going cheep I understand, Ian.
True friends stab you in the front.
Is there a hare nearby when this is happening?

all this jocularity whilst our reptile friends continue to be pinched.
if forumites wish to purchse one, 4 doors from me they own one.
they will not notice it missing.
300 quid, no questions re: origin?

I think those giant Galapogas tortoises go for six figures on Ebay.

Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
I had a tortoise for YEARS! Looked after it well, fed it properly, kept it in great health, loved it. I named him Speedy and grew up through most of my childhood with him (I was never allowed a dog). One day there was a news item on TV about the banning of tortoise imports and the value of the animals was likely to rocket. Shortly after this revelation my beloved Speedy got stolen. Please draw on your imagination how devastated and upset I was - it was pretty awful. I'd probably still have Speedy had he not been stolen.
I met a guy in Dover who breeds them but I never did get another one. Well, I ended up with dogs. But I think the black market sale of this fantastic creatures is awful. I know that tortoise owners tend to love their half-shell reptile buddies as much as dogs or cats and having them stolen can be pretty gutting.

they are incredible pets rick, full of character.
i was brought with three, slowcoach who moved around like he was on speed, tiny who was enormous and jimmy(he got the weird name).
they spend their lives trying to escape and go to great lengths to conceal tunnels.
