I see Vic's DOVOR campaign has reached the hallowed pages of The Mercury ( see page 6). Vic is driving us all nicely nuts here on Doverforum with this one and now newshound Graham Tutthill has picked the story up. Whether this development with The Mercury will give some mileage to the campaign is anyone's guess but could now be a possibility.
The newspaper features that old milestone in the London Rd which was re-installed in its original location by our very own Terry Nunn a couple of years back. The signpost reads
"One Mile to Dovor"
I remember we ran a picture of it on here at the time. Unfortunately that picture is lost from my files.
But what explosive bolt from on high suddenly brought this germ of an idea into Vic's head..was it a "St Paul on the road to Tarsus" moment. Did God speak to him from a lofty cloud and say
" Go forth Vic and spread my word, and the word is DOVOR..."
Or heaven help us..was it the devil??

apparently consideration is being given to naming a street after him.
it will be a fitting tribute to a great dovorian.

Please stop Paul, you're making me feel responsible! As I remarked earlier, the mileposts are a part of Dover's past. That's were the spelling should stay!
The picture showed the posts being unvieled by the then mayor, Ken Tranter (he's been quiet lately) and the Spar shop's owner Eddie Sall. I'll send the picture again if you like but I fear it might only encourage Vic.

Did you know an anagram of 'Dover District' is 'Victor did rest'?
Unlikely, methinks.

Howard
Vic already has a product named after him but I draw the line at him rubbing it into my chest.

...but seriously tho if you have that picture still send it over and shure we can run with it..who knows where it may all lead, maybe the Romans will invade us all over again.

OMG! Victor's campaign has now gone global! Questions may be raised at the UN Security Council next!
Who are you e-mailing in each town Vic? Do you have a list of all the governors and mayors around the world?

.
Be careful you don't miss off the small planetoid 'Dover' orbiting Proxima Centauri VI in the M31 Cluster.
I say only three words......World, Domination and Vic..............................

some witty stuff there from dave, viv and bern.
on a serious note how many prime ministers or monarchs have given us a laugh?
we really do not need the present lot.
it may be better to behead them, then install victor as PM, baz as king(he has the CV for it), colette as lady in waiting(waiting for baz to open his wallet).
copper keef can be home secretary, roger as foreign secretary(he is always on holiday). bern can be a socialist worker seller, it just leaves chancellor of the exchequer.
david h has chucked in the finance job at the town council, so he would have time on his hands.

I am still after a street to be named after me, when I have gone and one with out a dead end,I think we should rename the high St after me.
Vic [M]
I always had a fancy for Tommy Cooper to be PM....."we'll create jobs....just like that"....!
Howard - no job for you in our Brave New World? I suggest Town Crier, or perhaps you could capture the Green Vote with some of your cheesy jokes!! (Which I love, incidentally!)

we had a town crier a year or two back, a cove called stewart dimmock.
first day on duty, he relaxed for a minute and someone nicked his hat.
i was much saddened by that.

Come on now you're all being a bit silly. This is a serious topic (sez he almost wetting himself).
Speaking of things cast iron. Were we? Oh yes the mileposts. I have in my toilet a convervation piece. Not that I speak to many people in my toilet mind you.
It's another cast iron sign. It reads "Please adjust your dress before leaving".
Young people don't believe me when I tell them that it came from a GENTS!
Ah halcyon days.

Ive always held The Mercury with respect but now they seem to look in on the forum and lift a story and this latest one is stupidity at its worst.
