Why are we paying.
- 15 November 2014 06:40274474We was having a nice day out on Friday in Ashford and we went into a outlet and coming out I looked down at a paper stand and behold I picked up a Ashford Herald which had the heading Ashford Herald.CO.UK
Local news all day every day.
So I got one.
Last Monday I went to a outlet in Dover and I also saw a paper stand picked up a Dover Express with the heading,
Dover Express,
Local news all day and every day.
You might say "So what"
Well all so on the heading of the Ashford heading was the the word FREE meaning I did not have to pay for it.
But the Dover Express just under the heading was price 85p
So why are we paying 85p for our one and Ashford which we all know is the in Town at this time getting bigger and better then our own town getting theirs Free.
In the Ashford one it all so tells you the names of all the outlets that you can pick your one up for Free.and that is for each week not just a one off.Editor Simon Finlay both papers,contacts numbers are all the same in both papers..
So if the same is being done in Dover please do any of you know any outs that I can pick up a free Dover Express making a saving of 85p as I am a O.A.P. ? Thank you.
- 15 November 2014 07:12274475I must add to this as much as I like to read both local papers I cannot support the one that is giving it out free in one town and not the other IF and I say again IF that turns out to be true.

15 November 2014 12:00274482I used to download the Folkestone Herald every Thursday for free until they decided to start charging for it. I now download or read online, the Hythe Herald which has much the same news.......for free!

Most media groups use different sales strategies in different areas. In Ashford, KM's Kentish Express has been the established title for years and accounts for the vast majority of sales in the area.
The free paper we offer in Ashford will have more advertising and less reporters dedicated to the title than, say, the Dover Express or the Folkestone Herald, both of which have been the more established title in their given areas for many years.jamierose - 17 November 2014 12:18274575That is not the case ,the Ashford Herald has all the local news in it just like the Dover Express ,But thank you for your views even that I do not agree with them,as I said the reporting done in the Ashford one is the same as the one we get.
In fact I am thinking the Ashford paper is better for local news about Ashford then we have about Dover.But that is just my view about both papers, but I think we should have some free outlets for the Dover Express as they do ,if you have the paper coming out to your door then the 85p should be paid. Thank you.Not much more can be added over this one from me,only to say I will not be reading the Dover Express unless it is free ,I will miss that but I have put my case.
