Why are we still having to put up with all the cuts back and less services ,this has been going on for years now ,we pay more now in tax etc and yet we still have all the cutbacks ,both partys do it when in power, we are a very rich county ,so where is it all going .our roads are bad ,our lighting is bad,all services have been cut or done a way with, it is time we had some good news .

The super rich and large corporations pay little if any tax so public services take a hit.

Rubbish!
The proportion of working-age adults who do not pay income tax has risen from 34.3 per cent to 43.8 per cent, equivalent to 23million people.
Over the same period the amount of income tax paid by the richest 1 per cent has risen from 24.4 per cent to 27.5 per cent, meaning that 300,000 people pay more than a quarter of the nation's income tax.
As for 'large corporations' these are providing you with 'stuff' cheaper, quicker and better than at any time in history. What's not to like? It's called progress. Get used to it.

Many of us will have trouble getting used to the big corporations getting away with paying nothing but using resources.
Where do those figures come from and over what period of time?

Statistics and news headlines can often be used to promote a perceived theory one reason not to completely believe either of them.
The Telegraph uses "Nearly a half of Britons" etc but a large percentage of said Britons are children or retired, only later does the term "working-age adults" get used. This is another useful phrase as it will not include those who are legitimately unable to work like the disabled or stay at home mothers.

There are 3 kinds of Lies: Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics - Mark Twain
So are we supposed to be grateful that organisations like Starbucks or Apple provide us with very expensive and sometimes luxury items make £35bn plus profit and then pay literally a pittance in taxes thus reducing the amount of tax collected thus negatively impacting the economy greater due to the vast quantity of profits they make, means its a vast amount of tax for example £13 Bn in Ireland is significant!

This takes the biscuit having a whip round to pay for the library to be painted.

Please can anyone explain what was stolen that DTC have set aside £43,000 to recover stolen prop maybe that's why the bucket is there for a whip round.

I would be happy if they gave the outside a jet wash followed by sweeping the steps at regular intervals.

Someone asked the same question on Facebook, this was my reply........."I remember reading something about this but can't remember where, I know some items have been recovered, maybe it was the cost of proving ownership as the items were stolen many years ago. Pop into DTC offices they should be able to tell you."

yes that money was put to one side when I was on the Town Council there are still items that they are looking for which need to returned to Dover and that will cost money. But the Items missing are worth a lot more then the £43.000 put by for their recover if that comes about. The bucket has nothing to do with the town council.
