17:4927984Ladies playing football? This is an outrage! Good god man, they'll be voting next if we're not careful. Back in the kitchen with them all.
But seriously, I think sex equality is a myth. Women are much better - phwoar!
Ahem....
GOOD LUCK INDEED

08:0628011Just to broaden this out a bit and talk about gender in sport. We have this current story about the runner of the unmemorable name who won the 800 metres at the recent World Athletic Championships. I was watching this on television in a foreign land and I turned round and said..is that guy in the wrong race?? One glance at the runner in question and you could tell the sex or testosterone levels were weird. Perhaps it was the five o clock shadow, perhaps it was the flat chest, perhaps it was big shoulders and muscular arms, perhaps it was the male snake slim hips, whatever it was she looked bloody odd to me. I wasnt to know a furore was about to break. But here is the real issue...I felt sorry for the real girls trying desperately to win a medal a long way behind in the race. Lets not forget them.

08:3828016Yes the voice is certainly deep and Ive just been looking at pictures of her(??) on the BBC website and jeezez...!! We have had these problems in womens sports before and sports in particular where endurance is called for. There were even one or two sailing close to the masculine line in tennis but no names no pack drill.
But this latest example in athletics is a great shame. Normal girls dont have a chance as its like playing/running against a man so its a real heartache watching them try. Last night it was revealed that Semenya's testosterone levels were 3 times higher than normal following the recent tests with more results to come.
Perhaps we should have a new category in sport
men
women
and those who aint to sure.

08:5628018I'll wait for the medical outcome! If I was to judge on looks alone I know which side I would come down on though. Wasn't there similar, but less vocal, questioning around Fatima Whitbread? What about some of the Eastern european shot putters? They have very unusual physiques

17:1028040I find this outrageous. Because a woman doesn't conform to a white male stereotype of femininity she is de facto a man? Get a grip. This poor girl has had the world gawping at her, second guessing what is beneath her shorts - how dare the IAAC put her through thsat. Even if (and it is far from proven) she has gender issues, it should have been dealt with discreetly. Shame on the athletics committee. But just watch her - she has the shy and cautious mannerisms of a woman, and has been brought up as a woman. that idea that three times the testosterone level makes her gender questionable is farcical as well - many women (abnd many men) have different hormone levels without ever bringing their gender into question.
Shame on the lot of you, as well as the athletics committee.

17:4628041You could well be right Bern. Point taken.
As for your second point of "guessing what is beneath her shorts " I'm afraid I plead guilty of doing that all my life. It's the downside of attending an all boys catholic grammar.....lol.You will then appreciate my disappointment when I found out that it wasn't a Corgi boxed James Bond Silver Aston Martin DB...I always wanted one of those....

19:0228045As said before what chance do other women athletes have with an 'amazon' in their midsts, as for the Corgi boxed James Bond Silver Martin DB, my brother and I both got one for Christmas but lost the 'baddie' through the ejector seat.

19:3728054maybe the federation should have been more discreet.
however the athlete was not, my betting is that she is a chap.
anyone offering odds on this?
