i make no apologies for the corny title, dover has at last done justice to itself over the last two days.
not only two great events run concurrently, but advertised in such a way that there were no excuses for people not to know.
the big screen ran info all week, an advertising hoarding in the best position in town, coverage from the local press and of course pauls organ bore results.
crowds were enormous and enthusiastic and the master of ceremonies on the sea front when confronted with the delay of the spitfire flight reminded people of the free open top bus service up to the heights.
coming back from the western heights to see the fly past i got talking to 2 american couples off of the cruise ship in port, they were over the moon about the dover they had seen in only a couple of hours and were really looking forward to the flypast.
they could not believe that it was all for free, including the bus rides either.
hearty congrats to the district and town councils, bobby wotsisname at the harbour board, the western heights preservation society and all the people working behind the scene.

Excellent title Howard, and we thoroughly enjoyed both days. The sea front with those Rolls and Bentley`s were a terrific crowd puller, and as David H mentions on another thread, another car rally next year, (or every year), would be a boon for Dover. Being next to the continent, maybe the advertising people could spread the word across the channel? I know they have car clubs over there as well. I was only aware of one left hand drive car today, were there any other`s?

very eagle eyed of you colin, didn;t think about where the cars originated.
would be good if we became a regular venue for vintgage motoring enthusiasts.

Thanks for that Howard and Colin. Nice to read something positive about Dover instead of the usual stuff that we hear about our town.
I am not very mobile at the moment so am missing all these events.

People cannot say that nothing happens and there isn't anything to do in Dover - we had people at the Heights from all corners of Kent, and I noticed some postcodes from Wales and Bristol amongst others on our gift aid forms so we are all doing something right

Been nice knowing you :)

Alec, get back on your feet again soon mate, and let`s hope we get lots more positive stuff. But as Andy Cooper mentions on another thread, we`re the same, if not better than other towns. Keep doing events like this weekend, and I`m sure other events will follow and word will soon get round. Hope all goes well for you Alec.

Excellant week-end - I don't think anyone could fault any of it, not even the weather.
Hope you get your hip-replacement soon Alec.

Well said Howard.
