BTW I got a standard letter back from 'Spoons last week - I'd like to think our combined efforts have won out.

At least Bern's pleased about it then!

Hmmm...a start, re Damages' desecrated art deco fascia. A start - of sorts. We'll see.
On a similar note, a couple of weeks back I noticed some earnest arty-type person dabbing lightly with a paintbrush at the chipboard on the front of Deal seafront's derelict - and art deco, natch - former Regent Bingo Hall.
"Good," I thought; however, a week on and the Regent paint job's only half - well, not even half - done. Anyone know anything about this? Has torpor set in? Has the 'Spirit of Deal' project run out of Humbrols? Do they still sell them in Turners?
Personally think the Regent is crying out for some hairy-arsed decorator with a roller and some industrial-sized pots of Dulux to get stuck in and finish the job.
As for 'Snoops', well, 'hairy-arsed' doesn't even begin to cover it.
Good luck with both, though. Of course, it'd be so much better if both beautiful buildings reopened in some meaningful and appropriate capacity. But then I wasn't born yesterday!
Keep piling the pressure on, people.
Cheers all,
Andy
PS: I agree with Roger Walkden regarding the 'temporary' fencing around the Telly By The Ellie. Looks bloody awful. To echo Bern's sentiments (and mine and Andy Stucken's own broken-down-record tendencies!) - THESE THINGS DO MATTER.
Please sort it out someone.

Don't forget that the screen isn't 'unveiled' until later in August so perhaps they want it pristine ready for then ?
Been nice knowing you :)

Andy , Regent is part of Spirit of Deal Programme. It's their timetable.
It followed your initial posting as a scheme.

And proof that direct, assertive hands-on, properly-targeted action brings results.
Modesty aside, Dover needs more people like me.

Andrew Stucken as opposed to Andrew Stevens...yes Andrew I think many would be pleased to see progress with this eyesore but perhaps a little battle fatigue has crept in on Wetherspoons... and of course all they are doing is cutting down the vegetation. The monstrosity was overgrown with all sorts of greenery and as I passed by the other day I saw the cherry picker as shown cutting the offending shrubbery.
ah...I just remember further, they were also replacing some of the cheap as chips chipboard with fresher bits of cheap as chips chipboard...oh the excitement!!

Was only being tongue-in-cheek Paul. I know there are loads of people who do more for Dover than I.
Let's hope they are not just carrying out forestry work and will produce some Dulux as well.

I can't verify this, but I heard a convincing rumour it was the threat of legal action under H&S by DDC that forced Wetherspoons' hand. The growing plant life was at serious risk of causing the masonry to fall and injurying someone or worse.

I did post sometime ago that action was being taken .Ialso sent a gentle reminder to DDC as progress was slow .I was told work would commence when the gateway was opened .
I do try and keep you all informed .
Roger and I have been battling on about the weeds everywhere .We work behind the scenes .

Thanks Sue.
They certainly are getting the Dulux out, it was coming along nicely yesterday.
I must contact the Harbour Board about the weeds all around the Sea Sports Centre - what an embarrassment that'll be if it isn't cleared today.

Yes, well done to whoever got this going. Have the painters got time to get to Burlington House?

And now more of the same, please, on other derelict and neglected buildings.
How about also doing up the old Labour Exchange in King Street? Gorgeous old building, deserving of some respect through the gift of glossy paint.
As I said: more of the same please...
