My P.s Was intended to convey that, as I clearly accepted that I was continuing in the same vein.
I must agree that the world has gone mad with regulating most of the things that we enjoy but I would say that personally I think drink driving is a not acceptable; however, to bang them up for the sentences that Vic suggests might be just a little draconian and would not deter the main offenders.
There are good and bad drivers in all age groups so to cite age as a yardstick really is not an accurate view that holds any substance.

Pambrivio, you are right, up to a point, as a doctor's letter is only required if you suffer from a condition that DVLA require more information on, otherwise the application for a licence for the over 70's is just a confirmation that you do not suffer from any of the problems which they list.
(I know this because last night I carried out an online application to renew my driving licence..............again)!!

Do nothing and nothing happens. - 7 December 2014 08:49275304I would also like to point out the old you get the more times you need to get to a hospital and some times if you have to be there like we have to at 0830hrs in the morning or my wife has one coming up at 1930hrs at night it is not easy with public services, also a member of my family last week had to take 3 of her young ones on a Saturday afternoon to the Ashford Hospital and that would have cost a lot of money ,but because I have the car I could take them there and back in less time then it would have taken them to go one way and without any cost to them.
Also about drinking I am very anti drinking because of what can happen in life and driving ,just pointing out in my case It went a long way years ago in losing my first family and a very nice house out at the bay. But as we are talking about driving only IS IT WORTH having one drink that might put you over the top and that costing your job ,best thing is have none at all and that should be the law, And the same next day after drinking ,in fact some times the next day you are still very unwell and not fit to drive or work. - 7 December 2014 09:18275306Think it more a case of those that understand the consequences take measures so they don't endanger themselves or others. And it is those that don't think about them that constantly flout and take the risk. I do believe in first instance if caught action to correct their ways is reasonable, BUT if they do cause death/injury or second offence then they should get a lot more. It is depressing seeing how some get such light punishment even after several offences.

Why when a driver kills someone with a car they are not charged with manslaughter but charged instead with dangerous driving, I am not talking about what is an obvious accident that we all know can happen.-----------------------------------------------------------------------

We knew someone who loved his gin and tonic, he took a drink driving test on a voluntary basis at a London train station and passed even though he had had several G & Ts prior to his journey plus those consumed on the train. He was correct weight for his average height and aged about 50.-----------------------------------------------------------------------
