Glad to read that Howard and to know that I’m not on my own in finding the whole system a challenging nightmare. Only those that have or are going through this process can possibly understand both the costs and the intricacies involved.
It’s true as that article infers, you think you’ve cracked it and then unbeknown the powers that be change the goal posts yet again and you’re back to square one, very much like a game of snakes and ladders! My wife had to sit three English tests instead of one for this reason alone.
I doubt very much though that Harry’s wife to be will actually suffer quite the same stress as ‘normal’ applicants have to endure, she’ll have it all done for her of course, fast tracked and without having to spend God knows how long on the phone just waiting to get through to the immigration service only to find anyway that you can’t get an answer to your queries.
Fortunately for us we’re almost there, but it’s a long and tortuous road and at times seemingly never ending. Just as an example, the photo below shows the amount of documentation required to accompany a visa application and God help you if there’s the slightest error in anything submitted!

Believe it or not Howard, I thought exactly the same thing prior to embarking on my foreign “adventure “, have to say though that it came as something of a shock when I fully realised all the rigmarole that required addressing before I could actually have my wife live with me and for her to be deemed a British citizen.
I understand the reasons of course, but it still got my goat when a couple from say Bulgaria, regardless of income or status, could just arrive here and set up home together unimpeded whilst I, as an English tax paying resident, had to jump through hoops just to try and live in the same manner. - Weird Granny Slater

But having said that, unless you’re having a laugh, I’m not quite sure how you’ve reached that impression of me?
Admittedly, I personally feel that to spend that much money on a dress is somewhat obscene, much the same as I do with premiership footballers “earnings”. But I’m not anti football because of that nor am I an anti royalist because they have money to burn and lead, as you would expect, a different and cosseted life compared with the rest of us mortals. In fact to be honest I’m simply indifferent to them, but certainly not “anti”.
Anyway, old Liz and I are on good terms now since I received the invitation shown below, not the sort of bash a “puritanical socialist “ would attend I expect?
