I see Alexander's own brand of charitable Christian religion doesn't extend to those born beyond our borders...

Paul Isles, being born beyond our borders has nothing to do with it.
Many British people are born outside our borders, and many non-British people are born in Britain.
The Country has to serve - and be served by - its British citizens.
Furthermore, the Christian Charity does not prescribe mass immigration to Britain.
What has mass immigration to do with the Christian Faith?
What e very sad post of yours!

Surely if you are born in Britain you are legally British regardless of what country your parents come from.

i must admit i am completely lost here, it seems that paul and alex are talking about completely different things and as jan adds how can anyone not be british if they were born here.
leaving aside any bernard manning jokes from the past.

Children born in the UK don't necessarily automatically become British citizens.
Whether you apply or not to British citizenship owing to birth in the UK depends on the current laws and on your personal circumstances.
As for the rest, I was responding to Paul's strange post, that made a connection between immigration to Britain and the Christian Faith, as the post mentioned my name.
I agree it is totally and utterly unrelated to this thread. Gobsmacking!

A visit to the UK Gov. website informs me that people born from Jan 1st 1983 in the UK have entitlement to British citizenship if their parents were legally and habitually resident in the UK.
So for anyone interested, the date if birth is relevant, as well as residency.
Birth in the UK before that date does not follow the same regulation, in which case UK citizenship derives from the father or possibly the grandfather if applicable.
I was born some days before 1983 from two British parents in a British Army hospital and was handed citizenship on the spot there and then, in military fashion.
Rule Britannia!

I thought we were talking about the present day not what happened thirty plus years ago.

Some people were born before 1983, Jan.
They don't qualify for British citizenship in the same way as those born thereafter if the father or grandfather is not British.
So if anyone on the Forum is thinking of applying, it was just to let them know.
