Charlie has bought a piece of land adjoining his (£825k) house in St Margarets from DDC for £1000, one or two local politicos are up in arms.
Not for a moment am I suggesting any wrongdoing but are these people stupid?
Who decided the price? Who else could tender? Who's idea in the first place?
At a time when DDC are trying (haha) to be transparent this is another example of rank bad judgement that will come back to haunt them. Whenever there is perceived good news the usual suspects from DDC are all over this forum, I'm interested to see what they have to say about this.

Years ago we approached the council to buy some bramble covered land next to our house therefore anyone can approach the council to buy their uncared for land. We were unlucky as it was going to be built on and now it has been.
This is petty trouble making by Charlie's political opponents who would have said nothing if it was a supporter of their own party.

Absolutely agree with your last sentence Jan.
If people read the link, they will see there's nothing underhanded in what has/is, being done.

Of course there's nothing underhand, but not everybody is as intelligent and fair minded as you Roger, plenty will use this as an opportunity to bash DDC and Charlie.
This is about judgement and transparency, not wrongdoing.

Just like you are doing again trying for points over the D,D,C, and the blues, do not blame you for that but you will have to do a lot better then this one.

I haven't seen the piece of land so i don't know the size or state it is in but reportedly it has been neglected by DDC over the years and Chas has purchased the land with the idea of bringing it back into community use as a picnic area so i don't see much of a problem.

According to the Mercury Charlie will not now be buying the land.
This whole saga is a massive misjudgement by Charlie, Gorgeous Gordon is all over him.

Seems a pity as Chas was offering to bring back a neglected piece of land back into community use, the only advantage to him was having a better view from his house and would make it easier to sell when the time came.

I do not know why he done that, As a member of my own family does own land shops and houses out at the bay if they had been asked to buy it at a £1000 they would done so and would not have taken any notice of what the public or press said about it.
The D.D.C. said he could have it for that amount so why did he back away from it?.just maybe he was thinking it could cost him votes nexr year but I do not think it would have, it would have all been forgotten by then.

Exactly Howard.
Just to say yet again to try and buy council land you just have to ask them which is something anyone living in St Margarets or DDC are could have done.

Gordon can claim a points win but we will never know now what Charlie's original plan was.

David.
How sure are you that he has brought the land?

Rather looks like Gordon Cowan has deprived the St Margarets of a revamped picnic site, maybe he would have been better to concentrate on the local area he seems to rule.

I agree Jan.
I'm not sure about a points win Howard, more like spoil-sport jealousy - he (Gordon) can't have it, so he's stopped Charlie owning it and the community benefitting from it. Pointless, absolutely pointless.

Petty party politics from Gordon has raised it's head.
Which politician or political activist of any party will be the next target I wonder.

St Margaret's Bay Land Saga
Charlie Elphicke surveyed the sad scene in Calais,
Astounded at the immigrants dire plight,
Decided to engage the good ship TS Falaise,
To bring them to England one night.
First came the problem of where they would stay,
When they finally arrived on our shores,
He decided to buy land in St Margaret's bay,
Their welfare to help and safety ensure.
At the bottom of his grand pile there was land,
Sadly neglected and overlooking the sea,
He decided to buy it and offered DDC a grand,
And then invited them all round for some tea.
The Mayor of Calais, generously offered to fund,
The suffering migrants fare out of his town,
To the top of the cliffs behind the high bund,
Which caused a Dover councillor to frown.
Fragrant Gordon launched a campaign of smear,
Uttering accusations which made his act funny,
Not aware of the plan, his reasons I fear,
Was because Charlie had all the honey!
The land is still there with a look of dereliction,
Showing love and attention decidedly lacking,
Perhaps all is not lost if they have the conviction,
To licence big business to use it for fracking!
Do nothing and nothing happens.

Nice one.
I will offer £5k for the land, and open a micropub on it.
