John R. Bolton replaces H.R. McMaster as Trump's 4th NSA in 14 months (only Reagan - 6 - and Eisenhower - 5 - have had more, and both were two-term presidents). Needless to say Bolton has plenty of previous in the service of peace, love and understanding, but I suppose his most relevant contributions have been orchestrating the deselection of USA-neutral OPCW DG Bustani in 2002 and assisting in the Bush-Blair WMD 'case' against Saddam Hussein. A timely appointment given the current state of foreign relations this side of the pond.

All these Diplomats could club together and form a Spies R us group where they sit around in a circle on plastic chairs and the first one says "My name is Sergie and I am a spy" then breaks down sobbing while the others clap politely.

Put that on the wrong thread but rather heartening to hear that the innocent daughter caught up in this nastiness is now on the road to recovery against all odds.

Rather inevitable that China would hit back.

History repeats itself - first in tragedy - then in farce.
Just two words. Corn and Laws.

There's a lot of corn in the Orange Book, but I wouldn't hold Laws responsible for all of it.

Obscure references to that wonderful David Laws? That is far too urbane for us lowly forumites!

The textbook of the neoliberal wing of the Liberal Democrats, jointly authored by many of the self-serving Tory dupes (sorry, I mean principled statesmen) of the last coalition.

Chatter?
BREAKING: USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer is now in its position in East Mediterranean Sea within 100km from Tartus & almost 90km from Tripoli, Lebanon. It will probably launch 60 BGM-109 Tomahawks at Syria tonight.

Advance warning so Russian and Syrian planes are not sat on the runways, a bit like last time.

Dunno. Su-24Ms keeping well away. Possibly US will co-ordinate missile strikes with Russia (like last time) BUT load of F-15Es from 492nd FS just arrived Jordan so perhaps the stakes have been upped?

A tense and unpredictable situation but one thing is certain and that is by this time tomorrow it will all be the fault of Jezza.

Is that the same Jezza who could not blame the gassing of non-combatants on either the Russians or the Syrians or the Iranians on TV not half an hour ago? The man is a disgrace of a human being.

I must admit that I was one of the first to condemn Russia over the nerve gas attack but Jezza showed his statesperson qualities by waiting for proof.
Neither Jezza or myself have witnessed the happening in Syria so will patiently wait for evidence to emerge.
