Not totally done and dusted yet, if we cast our minds back two years Peter Wallace was elected but a deal was done just prior to the Mayor making and Neil Rix got the nod.

Chris Precious who relied on the (then 6) Conservatives to be voted in as Mayor in 2015 and Deputy Mayor the following year, voted for Sue Jones. Bearing in mind that Labour had never voted for him ever, still got his vote. I still can't work out why he has done that, probably Labour promised him the Chair of a committee.
John Lamoon (independant), who I classed as a friend, also voted for Sue Jones purely because he didn't like or agree with my choice of Deputy Mayor; I always thought the deputy was the decision of the newly elected Mayor.
Graham Wanstall, who I also thought was a friend and had tried to help a lot, abstained, as did Keith.
How can you work with people who stab you in the back ? I had started to think about what I would like to work on if elected - mostly business support and tourism and continue the good work that Neil had started.
Politics is a nasty game as I have recently found out.

Sometimes people do more than let you down Roger. It's not just in Dover.
http://www.kentonline.co.uk/deal/news/shock-new-labour-mayor-for-96199/
Considering recent events this was a shameful matter. Wayne Elliott, love him or loathe him, had spent decades on Deal Council representing his ward, and it would have been his 'swansong' allowing him to bow out on a high note. Instead ..............

I remember that fiasco well and that classic line about being essential to have a Conservative Mayor!! I thought the general idea was to have a Mayor that promoted the good things in the town.

Well having been away a while I surprized choosing to go public but heres some responses
Firstly though it was strange in Deal that Cllr Elliots best friend chose that day to be late.
But in Dover it was a strange night.
when you bear in mindthe vote could have been close, no ne lobbied me.
so we saw the 8 cllrs all solid
As Roger stated the alliance of tories/indies not at all solid.
Cllr Precious voting against Roger
Cllr Lamoon doing the same
Quite able to do so, but as Roger stated they wanted the support of the alliance to be mayor and chairs when it suited them.
But then Roger must consider his lack of judgement on allowing a second term for the present mayor, with by elections, and the alliance falling apart long before this vote, he was crazy to agree to it, and he get the support this year.
Cllr Wanstall did abstain I understand as I did but for different reasons I'm sure,
Cllr Wanstall will need to speak for himself
but I abstained which is most unusual for me but if I'm to vote for someone I have to have confidence in them which I didn't have.
It was a strange night as we also saw freemason vote against other freemasons.
So even they couldn't hold it together
All we can do is see when the labour chairs are elected if they believe in democracy

No. My so called friends double crossed me and voted for Susan Taylor who offered them fruit salad and black jack sweets as a bribe. I was gutted.

Sorry to hear that Paul lol
For me I'm only there to help my electorate.
I have no interest in being mayor or chair.
More important to help those in my community
And work with any cllrs from any or all of the 3 parties that wish to see and work towards abetter Dover.

Thanks Keith.
I put Dover first last year as Neil was doing a very good job as Mayor, so we voted to let him finish.
I don't know of any Freemason voting against another Freemason, but Freemasonry has nothing to do with the Town Council or its decision-making.
Keith, I didn't lobby you as I know that I would never get your vote, no matter how much I help you - you simply couldn't vote for a Conservative person to be Mayor.
Thank you also for your vote of no confidence in me.
Thank you Vic for your (no) vote of confidence.
The only reason I would have liked to have been Mayor, is to help Dover move forward.

Back in five minutes. Off to get a load of dirty washing. Obviously the Forum is just the place to hang it out in full view of everyone.

Please tell in what way can any mayor take Dover forward? the parish council have no power to do that. Or it would have been done years ago.

AFAIK Town Council is basically in charge of toilets and allotments. Perhaps if they could concentrate on providing these rather than wasting money on mad schemes which they have no experience of or training in (upon election everyone is suddenly an expert on town planning, traffic management, High Street retail and even architecture) everyone would be a lot happier, pay less Council Tax - and we'd all have decent toilets.
