I don't need to justify what I do but having been out of elections for 8 years I thought long and hard about did I really want to stand for DTC
On the one hand it's good to so that I can see first hand. What is going on
My next problem was as I was not in a political party what should I do
After chatting with one party activist I said he would be great for the area
He replied can't do it the cllr from tower hamlets wants her friend in river to be the candidate
I phoned the party explaining they already have an activist working with the assoc
Reply being this lady is the candidate I explained she's unknown and we are fed up of absent cllrs so I said unless you reconsider I will stand (this was after many in the ward from all the parties and no party urged me to do so)
They said they would win anyway
So I stood and won by 180
And that party came third!!
I got help from all 4 major parties
All secretly lol
It's a shame the party didn't listen
As it could have saved me a lot of my free time
On my Facebook page I do reports each few days I'm now up to 357!
I intend to reach 500 by time I leave in May
I know i would win if I stood again
But I have a family life as well
And having witnessed the party politics played out on DTC. Its not for me I'm afraid
I hoped we could get cllr run councils as well I pushed this but few supported it
