In Cyprus they have just discovered that most of the lawyers, Doctors, Opticians and other professional people aren't registered for income tax and haven't paid any tax for years. Cypriot EGP perhaps ?

he came down to Deal replacing Arthur Scargill duringh the mining dispute,
at a packed meeting he started off by saying theres a 3 party whip and he must leave by 7pm
he was still there talking to the crowds ar 2200!!!!!
Always principled, never changed no matter what positions he held
Trouble these days, whether it be local politicians or national we are fast losing the characters;
To show this at a more local level first;
We have had a lot of characters, but sadly no more
im sure barryw can add to the list;
Ray Norley who stood in what was rock solid tory Elms vale ward at time(now a marginal seat) was one of the most controversial characters, but said it as it was, certainly fell foul of his own party, but you always knew where he was coming from.
Geoff Howarth was a real lefty labour cllr took things to extremes on the left, but never failed to liven up what were very boring meetings at times, I used to sit next to him at some meetings and recall thinking,,,,, blimey i thought i was a lefty but he realy outshon me lol
Certainly we had many a row internally as his views were never going to get labour elected at the time
Realy amusing the CND days, when he was proposing a nuclear free Dover
I had so many rows over CND in the local labour party at the time, supporters of CND were strong in the 70's 80's.
Tony Watson(tory)
Used to wind me up over labour over years, but sat for a number of years working together on many issues
sadly internal toriies (1 in particular) made it clear of his distaste for Tony and the 2 watson brothers after being moved around the chamber to keep them away from the right wing tory left the council
We still send each other xmas cards
and certainly tony's brother doing well for himself in customs.

Charities condemn Iain Duncan Smith for food bank snub
Requests for meetings with work and pensions secretary to discuss growing crisis have been refused

Iain Duncan Smith, the embattled work and pensions secretary, is refusing to meet leaders of the rapidly expanding Christian charity that has set up more than 400 food banks across the UK, claiming it is "scaremongering" and has a clear political agenda.
The news will fuel a growing row over food poverty, as church leaders and the Labour party accuse ministers of failing to recognise the growing crisis hitting hundreds of thousands of families whose incomes are being squeezed, while food prices soar.
Responding to requests for a meeting from Chris Mould, chairman of the Trussell Trust, which has provided food supplies to more than 500,000 people since April, Duncan Smith has dismissed claims that the problems are linked to welfare reforms and attacked the charity for publicity-seeking. In his most recent response on 22 November, Duncan Smith made clear that he had received enough letters from the trust and referred Mould to his previous answers. His deputy, Lord Freud, the minister for welfare reform, also explicitly rejected an invitation for talks on 30 August, telling the trust's chairman that he was "unable to take up your offer of a meeting".
Mould, whose organisation is struggling to keep up with ever-increasing demand for its services, said that he and his army of volunteers could not understand why ministers were refusing to listen to their suggestions for easing the plight of the hundreds of thousands of people in desperate need

there is a clear link to welfare reforms but also to the cuts in hours that many low paid workers are getting. certainly no excuse for the minister refusing to meet with the charity.

Government to stop funding for low-income families facing emergencies
Department for Work and Pensions to cut £180m support; Children's Society alarmed at 'blow to critical safety net'
A £180m-a-year hardship fund providing emergency help for low-income families who suffer sudden financial crisis as a result of domestic violence, ill-health or natural disaster such as flooding is to be scrapped, it has emerged.
Technical documents released just before Christmas suggest the Department for Work and Pensions plans to cut its cash allocation to local authority welfare assistance schemes in 15 months' time.
Charities warned this would lead to a postcode lottery in local welfare help and trigger a rise in the number of people becoming dependent on loan sharks or charitable support, such as food banks.
Matthew Reed, chief executive of the Children's Society, said the removal of government funding for local crisis schemes was alarming. "This is yet another blow to what was once a critical safety net for families facing such unpredictable emergencies and disasters as flooding, or simply running out of money to buy food for their children or feed the electricity meter.
"We urgently need a clear commitment from government to provide local authorities with sustainable funding to support families facing an unexpected financial crisis. Without this, many more families will be forced to turn to food banks, or to use loan sharks or high-cost money lenders."

doesnt have to. All we need as well is positive attitude to the problem. Also, I always find when you have a problem or a dififcult situation, you always find a way out of it. Simply because a human uses their Brains for once.
So Heads up and get them together rather then looking miserable and waitng for help to come.
Finest example: when it snows and the weather is bad. you not just doing your little part, as this would not work. You extend your help to the one in need and also make sure others follow suit. Thats people power and work wonders. This is what needed in this time. I know a good 15 years ago, People where like that and now not anymore. So its down to the people and Community to change this back. WIll be hard work but well worth it.
So thats me done :D Have a great day
