Ed Miliband has promised to freeze energy prices until 2017. This is an amazing initiative and will really give working people a boost to their financial security.
I gather that they are now also drafting legislation which will make it illegal for rain to fall at weekends and on bank holidays.

Hopefully little ed will target those evil, nasty, money grubbing and planet destroying bread making companies.
Did you know that since the year 2000 bread prices have increased by a factor of over 100%?
Absolutely scandalous wouldn't you all agree?
Tomatoes? Butter? Tea? Pasties?
Awww something's gonna be done and it's gonna be done right here right now!
Grrrrr. I'm so angry with the world.
Oh wait! What about the price of cheese? What???????? Over 300% since 1980?
Having messed previously with our energy needs by way of the climate change act this clown now intends further damage through the ridiculous idea of legislating to cap energy bills.
All I can say is stock up on candles and torch batteries, buy food which does not need heating (canned tuna etc.) and for those who can afford it - buy a generator.
I should add that those who think that this idea is brilliant should realise that in essence what miliband is saying is this:
"Vote for me and I'll save you £120 per year."
What an absolute chump.

Has Ed Millybee, who can count to five, managed to predict the market supplies of oil and gas?
With all due respect for Millyband's literacy, his speech on energy prices is utter illiteracy from an economic point of view.
Anyone predicting energy prices for the year 2017 must be a Labour politician.
No self-respecting economist would endorse Milly's weird promise. We simply cannot know how the energy supply world-wide will be in four years time.

Whilst I wont be voting for him we do need to look at what hes saying in a balanced view
whilst the closets will attempt to discredit ed, hes actually saying the big companies cant go on hitting us with big bills
even when there making big big profits.

Anyone prepared to bet that there will be a massive price hike from the power companies prior to the next election and should Labour get elected again after the 20 months.
Thanks Ed for the guaranteed price rise regardless of whether you get in or not.

If ed was really serious about saving consumers money on their energy bills all he would have to do is to scrap the climate change act which was his idea in the first place.
Not gonna happen in my lifetime.
Doing so would save many hundreds every year on our bills rather than a paltry £120.

Hi Philip, I would love to get a saving on my fuel bills, it would be great.
Unfortunately this announcement from the Labour leader just about guarantees that prior to the next election my energy bills will increase by more than £150 per year above what they would have increased by anyway.
The energy supply firms are private companies with shareholders and foreign governments to satisfy and lots of executive bonuses to maintain, so you can be absolutely assured that, threatened with the possibility of 2 years restricted/reduced profitability, they will be raising prices while they can and more than they need to (in the current wholesale market), to protect their investors/shareholders' interests and never mind the fuel poor, the struggling small businesses (or anyone else for that matter), the unemployed, disabled and elderly.
The energy companies won't feel a thing but the rest of us will suffer regardless of the outcome of the next election - thanks for nothing.
All Party Politics and Party Political leaders are clearly mad and led by clever fools who are happy to see ordinary people suffer just so they can score political points off each other - this announcement by the Labour leader is just the latest in a long line of stupid policies and policy announcements from politicians of all colours.

I don't disagree that prices are TOO high - The Labour leader's announcement has just guaranteed that they are going to rocket even higher in advance of the election and his proposed freeze. His announcement will not reduce the price that you and I pay for our energy - the opposite in fact will be the case and we will all suffer from this foolish announcement by paying 2018 fuel prices from mid 2015.

........"Sometimes putting out policies will get people thinking,"
Very true. I'm thinking Ed Miliband is an idiot.
Has to be said that it's not the companies that need sorting it's all three parties who have failed us all.
As a result of their crazy environmental policies, worst of all the climate change act, we are guaranteed higher bills, a shortfall in capacity, higher unemployment and blackouts.
Oh how I laughed when this fool promised one million green jobs. An utter impossibility. But the delegates lap this stuff up which is unsurprising being a labour party conference.

This has nothing to do with being in or out of closets it is to do with common sense simply because the power companies are bound to use the forewarned is forearmed principle as fast as they can.
If this is a serious plan it is something that should have been kept under wraps until it could be put into practice.

Fortunately the only people who will vote Labour as a result of that speech were in the audience. But they would have done so anyway. What a waste of time the whole party conference business is.
