£1.8m Private Sector Housing Boost

Tuesday, 3 October 2006
Dover District Council is to invest a massive £1.8m in private sector housing in the district to help vulnerable families, especially those with children, following news of a major grant from the South East Regional Housing Board.

Dover District has been allocated the grant of £1.8m in recognition of significant housing condition issues in the local private sector. Dover District Council's Cabinet is meeting on Monday 9 October to consider how the funding is to be spent.

Cllr Mrs Sue Nicholas, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community said "This is major news for the area and we are very pleased that the Regional Housing Board has recognised the need for this significant investment in the district. Private sector housing accounts for 80% of the total housing stock in the district so this is important news. This also complements news that Dover District Council is working with Kent County Council and other District Councils and is launching a scheme to provide financial support to bring empty properties back into use. These initiatives are working to help bring an important boost to quality of life in the district."
