200 Cyclists To Travel Through Dover

Monday, 17 July 2006
More than 200 cyclists, from the keenest enthusiasts to amateur pedallers, will be arriving at Dover on Wednesday at the end of the first stage of a four-day trip cycling from London to Paris to raise money for the charity Action Medical Research.

Many who are taking part to raise money for very personal reasons, including overcoming their own medical problems to help others by raising funds for vital medical research.

The cyclists will be covering between 60 and 90 miles per day, stopping at Dover, Calais, Abbeville and Beauvais before reaching Paris just in time to watch the peloton from the Tour de France whiz by. The trip is a test of stamina, resolve and pedal power, covering a distance of approximately 300 miles with a number of challenging climbs and great downhill runs. Last year the cyclists on the trip raised over £250,000 to fund vital medal research and this year's team is keen to break through that target.

They should be arriving on Dover seafront on Wednesday from 4.45pm onwards.
