Air And Sea Search For Two Passengers Missing From Ferry

Monday, 13 November 2006
Emergency services on both sides of the Channel are involved in a big air and sea search for a man and women who have been reported missing from a cross-Channel ferry.

The passengers were said to be part of a coach party travelling on an early-morning P&O Ferries service from Dover to Calais, but are understood to have been missing when the time came to disembark at the French port.

The search is being co-ordinated by Dover Coastguard and involves two helicopters, the coastguard tug Anglian Monarch, French naval vessels and two lifeboats from Calais and Boulogne.

The alarm was raised just after 3.30am on Monday.

A coastguard spokesman said the search would continue for some time, but it was possible the women had left the ferry by other means.

"Survival times vary according to people's age, fitness, size and time of the year" said Andy Roberts, of Dover Coastguard.
