The Archery World Cup competition is to be held in Dover next year.
The announcement follows a visit by officials from the Grand National Archery Society - the UK's governing body for the sport - to inspect a number of sites. They have chosen the Duke of York's Royal Military School as the venue for the event, which will take place during the first week of August 2007.
Between 300 and 450 archers - plus a large number of spectators - will converge on the town to take part in the competition, boosting business for Dover's hoteliers and guest house owners.
The organisers are also hoping that the event could attract the attention of those who are planning the London 2012 Olympics.
