The Royal Navy frigate HMS Kent was formally adopted by the Cinque Ports of Kent and Sussex at a ceremony in Dover Castle.
The Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, Admiral Michael Boyce, received the Commanding Officer of the ship in the presence of the Admiralty Sergeant and Lord Warden's cadet.
HMS Kent was berthed alongside the cruise terminal at Dover's Western Docks.
On Sunday, officers and crew from the ship, together with the Lord Warden, attended the morning service at the church of St Mary in Castro, at Dover Castle.
